Vintage Legaf Speciale - Save to shave with?

Hi,

I bought a small box of vintage Legaf Spéciale blades (100 in total). They're still wrapped in their wax paper. Some rust has developed over the years, but there are no blades with rust near the cutting edges. I've tested one on the edge of a piece of paper and it slices through with the greatest ease.

I was just wondering: is it actually save to shave with these blades? Maybe I should just try them, but I thought some of the gurus around here would known some tips and tricks... Like sticking the blade in a glass of Dettol (desinfectant) first before using it... :w00t:

It has been my experience that vintage blades have cool packaging, are great to own but horrible to use.

Well, sir, you are quite right.

Just tried one and it does not in any way, shape or form match up to any of the new blades I've got. They cut allright, but it felt like chopping down trees. Four strokes were enough for me... Finished the job with a Derby Extra.

Guess I'll display them somewhere nice when I finally post a picture of my den. :thumbup1:
