Vintage Klipette cleaning questions. Using Break cleaner or not break cleaner.

It comes apart easy enough but there is hardened oil or something inside the fatter part that is causing it to be hard to turn. If I were to use break cleaner to get this old sticky gunk off, will that hurt the plating? Or is this thing made of steel. It really looks like it is likely steel but I would like a second opinion before I ruin it.

I'd put a few drops of WD40 on it, let it sit for a minute and then wipe it clean.

well, I did it. I rinsed it with brake cleaner. It cleaned it to a like new shine.

So now we know. Brake cleaner loosens tight klipettes

You can get boxed ones from the famous auction site for under $10. Now that we know they are stainless steel and are able to be completely dismantled, cleaning and sterilizing is a snap/
