What's new

Vintage Ivory Rooney

I got lucky and scored this beauty recently. It has Made in England stamped on one side and 3 on the other. I am pretty sure its a vintage Rooney in Elephant Ivory. I didn't realize the shear size of it til it arrived. Without a knot its a whopping 4oz.(1/4lb) and almost 3-1/4" tall. I just got it cleaned up and ready for its new knot. I sat my Simpsons 58 behind it just for a fill in knot in the last pic. The lines are amazing and encompass the entire handle of the brush. This must have cost a fortune in its day with the 25mm bore foe a very large knot.I will be sure to post updated pics when it is fitted with its new knot. Enjoy!

Wow! You could probably get a chubby and a travel brush out of that piece of ivory. It's a beauty.
It actually has the top fitted extremely well to the the bottom at the ring. I have to stare at it to tell. The lines actually mate up fairly well between the halves make it even harder to detect.

This sort of brush, for those of us who like old things, is the pinnacle of acquisition. It is truly a beauty and I love the yellowing and crackling in the handle. You are lucky to own it, but you are also its caretaker. There are literally no more of these being made (well, legally anyway). Truly an heirloom quality item and a treasure.

Trying to hide my petty jealously, but am not sure i'm doing a very good job with it.

Anyway, congrats.

Thank you very much. I can't wait to knot it.

I forgot to mention earlier that they are still made legally today as long as Pre-Ban Ivory is used. Plisson still sells them( You better have deep pockets though) and there are other sources as well though it is expensive to have done.

Would you be interested in a trade? I'm pretty much over the wife and kids, so they're available. The hunting dog, however, I won't part with.

Does she own an offshore fishing boat?

Sigh...no. Do you think I'd trade a woman with a Mako or a Grady White moored somewheres? Why that would just be foolish.

I'll check out Plisson's offerings. I can make big luxury expenditures as long as I plan years in advance. The groundwork will begin immediately. Look for my posting and pics in this forum in 2020.

If I am not mistaken, the Plisson Ivory starts at around $900 for the smallest size. They are beauties though.

Beg your pardon???

YOu dont have to beg, you are pardoned. :)

Seriously, they are around that price, if not more. I looked up the prices. There are four sizes with the smalles running $975 and the largest at $1,959. BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!!!

rare beauty, love the patina on the ivory...these things are "grandfathered" in,so I would have no worries about legality..
