Vintage DE blades / picture of DE I scored

Hi, I asked in general and thought this might be a better place to pose my question.

I bought this razor from an antique/resale shop, and was wondering if the gillette blades and the Durex blades that I got with it (which must be old) are usable? They are sealed and everything, but does their age affect how they shave?

If they are carbon even sealed they can have oxidation on the edge, you'll need to look close before you decide.

Awesome, I will check out those places. Just feel like paying for shipping might not be worth it just to try out and see what I think.

Much appreciated!

How long is the handle on that thing? Looks similar to the Tech Travel I have, but a more ornate handle. If so it's pretty short and may not be the easiest razor to learn on.

Regarding the vintage blades as long they are rust free you should be good to go.
I've used everything from some late 60's/early 70's vintage Gillette Super Blue blades that grandpa never finished to some 1918 date coded Gillette 3 hole blades with a 5 pack of some late 40's in between.
+1 on the sampler pack but if you're in a real hurry you can get some good DE's at CVS or Walgreens but be aware that both (at least in the Chicago area)will be some where in the 7 to 8 buck range.
You don't note where in the US you are but if you are in an area of the US where Meijers is you can get a ten pack of their store brand (most likely the same brand as CVS/Walgreens) for around 4, if you have a Bed,Bath & Beyond with the Harmon's Pharmacy in it you can get a 5 pack of the US made Wilkinson Sword blades for about 5.50(as well as Clubman AS and Clubman Lilac Vegital for decent costs) and a lot of the Walmarts carry the German made Wilkinsons in a 10 pack for under 2.00.

The handle is quite short, I tried the vintage razor blades without much issue, but they weren't completely satisfactory.

I actually am often in Chicago area, so Meijer is a convenient place. I think my first pack will be from there but if I enjoy it I'll go to the sampler.

Awesome information guys thanks.

If you're in the Chicago area often then Merz is a must visit and if in the northwest burbs the BB&B just west of Woodfield is (at least last I checked)about the only BB&B east of the Mississippi that has a Harmons in it.

Oh very nice, I actually do get to the NW suburbs, a bit a ways from woodfield but my lady needs no excuse to stop there/BB&B, so I shouldn't have trouble with that! I will definitely check that out next time, surprising I've been there before and never noticed they had a decent shaving section.

Merz is somewhere I have meant to go, but schedules have conflicted thus far with their operating hours on weekends. Maybe after the next paycheck I'll stop there and grab some things to try different, I've been meaning to try proraso and Thayer's WH.
