I had to pick up a couple things at Walmart and took my usual quick peak at the shaving aisle on the off chance there was something different. I noticed that that the VDH kit (brush, bowl, and soap) clearanced down to $5. As I was running a bit late, I didn't pick up the 2 they had left, but I think I might make a trip back despite my grand plans of doing nothing all day tomorrow. I do not know if it is just the local store, but I thought I would pass the info along.

They were clearance out at my local Wal-Mart as well. Seems odd, as from my experience VDH Deluxe (refills) is a good mover in this Wal-Mart.
I picked one up, as I figured for $5 I could use another puck of VDH Deluxe, and another VDH Bowl. The boar brush I am not such a big fan of, but it is getting re-knotted with a badger knot.

I need to go to WallyWorld today so I will certainly cruise through the shave aisle. I love the soap and the bowl. Need some more AV as well.

It would be very sad if they did clear that item out- I know it's been a mainstay in the shaving community for a while- a great starter kit.
its what i started with too. its what im still using. i noticed my walmart quit stocking the individual brushes a while ago... but they only lowered the kits at mine to $7 its like a dollar and a half off. i wish i would have bought the brush back then as i want to take the knot out and replace it with silvertip.
Got mine. Impulse buy. Could always use another deluxe puck, and I think the bowl is cool.
Looks like the kits are gone from the Walmarts in my area. Gone from the web site too. Looks pretty safe to assume Walmart stopped carrying the kits.

+1 once most people get deep into wet shaving they stray away from VDH and to better products, but this is a great starter kit just to give someone an idea if they might be interested in wet shaving.
VDH sets are on clearance in my neck of the woods too though they were all sold out.
Still had the pucks at regular price. May have to pick up some of those before they're gone too.

The sets are on sale here as well; also, the pucks are marked down to $1 each.
Yeah, for an "economics" wetshaver, you can't beat the kit. Everything in it is usable and it doesn't get any cheaper.
If that kit goes from walmart then $12 eBay Silvertip brushes, $3 eBay arko sticks, and Dollar store cereal bowls will get a big boost.

I've got a pretty large stock of VdH soap, bought in 12 packs on Amazon, and a VdH brush, bought on an impulse last year when I saw it at a CVS. I've seen that starter kit advertised, and wouldn't have minded having the bowl, too, but the closest Walmart isn't really convenient to get to. I just like the idea that these starter kits are available in some regular stores. It's a shame if the only places you can get wetshaving supplies are on line or in expensive specialty stores.

No luck for me today, normally I avoid big blue like the plague (go red team) but had to swing in to see if there were any of these starter kits to start spreading the gospel of wet shaving with brothers/friends alike.
All I found were the normal VDH pucks of soap at full price and the usual foams, disposables and cartridges. They were pretty short on Old Spice products, hoping it was just the rate of consumption versus a move to run down inventory before they ditch it as well.. single store does not a chain wide strategy make, right?
Edit - second trip to a different WM, same story... I did find the Burt's products on clearance at $5 a tube for cream or AS, passed... it was in a random shelf like 3 aisles away from the other shaving stuff so consider looking around the entire H&B area before you give up, they seem to consolidate clearance product away from their standard stock items.

My local Wal-mart is sold out too. A Wal-mart employee checked and said that it's a discontinued item so they wouldn't be getting anymore in. They were sold out of the soap too!! I hope they're getting more soap!!
And now the tags are also gone!
I thought double edge shaving in USA was picking up instead of tapering off.
Ahhhhh is it the start of the Shavepocalypse!?!?!
Maybe they discontinued the shave kit in fear too many people will start to double edge shave and the hurt the cartridge and disposable shave sales.

Update: I went to Wal-mart today to check again to see if they had stocked more of the VDH soaps. A Wal-mart employee checked their system and said that they will be getting more of VDH Deluxe soap. They were just sold out of the soap at the moment. I sure am glad that they're still going to carry the VDH Deluxe
