VDH Badger advice

hiya! I've used the VDH boar and a Mühle synthetic for the record.

i bought the $10 VDH badger from target just to say I tried badger and I'm not getting good results at all:
it lathers well in the bowl but when I go to apply to the face, I'm getting a thin coating.

the brush is super floppy, so maybe that's the problem.

maybe the brush isn't actually loading up with lather or maybe it's soaking it up and not letting it go.

since its my first badger experience, I thought I'd ask: is there something you have to do differently with a badger than you would with a boar or my awesome synthetic?

if it's just a thirsty brush, is this what I can expect from my new WD silvertip coming in the mail (a freebie from Larry!)?

I always had better luck bowl lathering with that than face lathering with that brush. I didn't care for it, so I decided to pop a different knot into it. To face lather, I always had to shake out a ton of the water, load it up for nearly a minute, and add tons more water in the form of a few drops at a time during the face lathering process.

It does layer things on a bit thin. My best experiences with that badger (it's the only badger I have, btw), is either face lather, or use a very thick bowl lather, then dip the tips as you go onto the face, and sort of face lather from there. I've managed to purely bowl lather and paint the lather on, but you have to super load the brush. It just doesn't seem to want to let go of the lather once it's in the brush, compared to the semo 830 I have, my only other brush (currently).

Using the VDH luxury soap to face only lather, however, the VDH brush performed pretty amazingly for a $10 badger brush.

I really enjoyed the VdH badger, I think its a great brush for the money. The only reason I stopped using mine is that it has a bit of a shedding problem. I bowl lathered with it and thought it was a good performer. I replaced it with a Whipped Dog badger, another great brush for a low price.

Add a couple of O-rings to the base of the knot where it meets the handle and that should take some of the flop! Also soak that Boar in hot water for at least 5 minutes.
