What's new

using water instead of cream or soap

I've been doing it for a while and it is really great. I'm still a bit amazed at how well water works as a lather... but hey i'm not complaining. I used a beat up feather blad but also new ones.

Get's a great shave (without nicks) and it works fantastic... anybody have the same experience?

My old boss only used water and the cheapest disposable he could find without any problems. I wouldn't like to try it personally, pampering myself with a nice smelling soap or cream is all part of the fun for me.

I got beat up just for saying that water was a good lubricant. And I was talking about using it with cream. No way I'm backing you on using water only. Even if I half agree.

Seriously, though... No, I wouldn't use it alone unless I had no other choice. It works much better mixed with other things.

If I am in a rush, and wife has been complaining about stubs, I will grab a Mach 3 and scrape off some facial hair. I usually use the Mach for body shaving. I've been wet shaving with a DE razor for only a year, and am still a little scared to use it with just water.

I also shave with the Mach 3 in the hot shower, it's just so much faster, though I agree not as close. Compare 20 seconds to 20 minutes and it appears to be a great trade off (sometimes.)

Do you use a DE with just water, and is that over the sink, or in the shower? I may have to try that once.

What, no peanut butter? :cornut:

I have heard this before (i.e., shaving with just water) and tried it a couple of times. It absolutely does not work for me.

This might sound weird but my first shave was done witch just a simple disposable razor and as lubricant just water. I was 16 year old and my father refused to teach me haw to do it properly. I will never do it again !

I shaved with hot water and a cartridge for about 15 years. Got decent shaves. Nothing to write him about. I tried canned goo a few times but didn't fare much better so I didn't screw with it.

This week I started using proraso lather (I'd love to try some soaps but one thing at a time to get started) and getting the best shaves of my life.

If you were me, would you go back to hot water tomorrow or spend two minutes on a Sunday morning whipping up a rich lather?

Like I always say some guys drive around in a Yugo and think its the best car in the world and don't need anything else. Not many guys but they are there. If water works for you great. Your one of those guys but you are in the tiny minority.

I used to be a shower shaver, using running water on my face to lubricate the blade. In all honestly, I could probably still do that and get a pretty good shave with a M3 Monstrosity, but I prefer the finer shaves I get with some good lather and a Trac II.

Did this plenty times when I ran out of goo at sea...

I used Bic-disposables these days... It was horror.

It can be done, I mean, you can burn off the hairs with a Zippo and get a decent shave but you don't have to.

Goodbye water-shaves!

ok, I risked it all today. I was taking a hot shower and after taking care of everything else, I stepped out of the shower and grabbed my DE razor. It's kinda dark in the shower and I have an old small mirror to see my grin. :001_unsur

I used only WTG and some ATG strokes and walked out with little to no weepers. I still have some stubble so I will get a real shave tomorrow.

It was a scary moment. I just hoped that the water running down my face, the entire time, would not turn red. The razor did not glide, it kinda hiccuped across my face. I had to think twice about shaving my protruding adams apple.
