Using abalone sheet in scale making

I’m about to start working on making some abalone scales. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of producing scales using the thin sheet type abalone. I am planning on laminating the sheet onto a liner using clear casting resin. Materials and techniques that I don’t know a lot about,so any help you can lend will be appreciated.
