Used blades when traveling

Hello, I have a question regarding when travelling. I am not a daily shaver and have gone out of town for the weekend. I shaved the morning before I left, last shave for the that blade, and will only be shaving once while gone. I was wondering what everyone does with their used blades when traveling rather than just throwing it out after only one use. If possible I could still use the blade for the rest of the week. My razor is a three piece that I have to disassemble to fit it into what I use it for transporting.

A tin of Altoids Mini (mints) can hold your blade safely for you if you want to keep it. Wrap it in tissue/toilet paper to protect the edge and then place it in the tin.

I will be taking one of these mini tins with me to hold my used blades when i go on vacation. But in this case it will be so that i can dispose of it safely in the trash without hurting anyone.

That means I need to eat more Altoids, I am already working on a regular sized tin to replace the one that was holding my guitar picks (this one is now being used for razor transport). I just have a hard time finishing off a tin; I usually buy a tin, misplace it and then months later come across it with Altoids I am scarred to try.

Just a buy a mini tin and empty the contents into your big tin. :)

I go through a lot of mints/gum as all my colleagues come to my desk and take some when they pass. I use an empty Orbit chewing gum cup (one that holds 60 pieces of gum, "car cup") to hold my used blades in the bathroom closet. It can probably hold over 100 blades safely. Once its full i'll tape it up and throw it in the trash.

How do you transport your DE blades? in the tucks?

I ask because my thought is you could save the blade wrapper and when you are done shaving wrap the blade back up in the wrapper then toss it or mark it used and save it for when you get back home and deposit it in the blade bank.

if you have the plastic tucks then most of them have a blade disposal built in on the bottom.

If I'm only gone for a couple days, I keep the blade in the wrapper and mount it in the razor. Just push the studs through the paper and I put the razor in a leather travel case. I haven't heard any complaints from TSA about this yet. For the used blades, I just wrap them in tissue, snap them in quarters and ball it all up in more tissue before round filing them.

Just to clarify things I am not asking how to dispose of the blade when traveling but how to transport the used blade (will only get used once) so that when I get home I can still use it for the rest of the week (about 3-4 shaves total including the once while I am gone). The blades I brought were my Shark SS which are in a small cardboard box, thus no plastic tucks. I don't think leaving the blade in the razor is an option as it is a 3 piece razor that I have disassembled in an Altoids tin. TSA is also not an issue as I am driving.

ahh ha! Thanks for the clarification.

I'd still suggest putting it back in the blade wrapper.

I like the Wilkinson Sword dispenser container. I don't like the blades, so I PIF them, but keep the plastic container. I can put my preferred, wrapped blades in the container and store the used blades below the deck in the container. If you push the cardboard card backwards, the back door on the container will open and allow you access to your blades. This is how I get mine both in and out.

Forgive me if I get just a bit off topic but this prompts the question about TSA and traveling with my DE blades. I have always been hesitant to put them in my carry on.

Does anyone know the actual TSA regulations on the blades or should I expect differing opinions based upon the airport and specific individual TSA agent ?

Many threads on this -- do not temp TSA. Officially verboten.

keep the blade wrapper (or use folded paper) and rewrap the dry blade and put it into the pages of a book or back into your dopp kit/toiletries bag - that is if none of the above ideas work for you.

I bought a soap container, the plastic hinged type that costs $0.79 at walmart. It fits my assembled razor, a tuck of blades, and a small piece of styptic pencil. I keep the blade in the razor. I don't see why a razor has to be disassembled to travel.

This is for non-TSA situations.
Because right now I am using an Altoids tin where the handle without the head barley fits as it has to lay diagonally.

I had picked up one of the soap containers but want to do something to kind of cushion the razor so it is not bouncing around inside of it, thus using the Altoids tin at the moment as a napkin keeps the pieces from moving around.

A sponge, cut to fit, will cushion things nicely. You could even cut slots in it to fit a blade tuck etc. Also, you could buy a single pack of blades, like Derby, that uses a plastic tuck and refill it with a couple of blades of choice. That would give you a blade vault and a couple of extra blades. The Derby ones are easy to open, so you could pop the used blade in and out as needed.

I was going to reply that I bought a sponge, but it seemed it was pre-moistened, or it seemed damp when I pulled it out of the wrapper, so I need to get around to buying another one. I might try Dollar General or Dollar Tree as I got the sponge from Wall Mart and it was one of those Scotch Brite with the scrubby on one side (was going to have that side at the bottom). I have a couple of packs of Viking Sword blades that have the plastic tuck, but it will take about 8 more weeks to empty one of them (10 blades and average 1 blade per week already having used 2 blades).
