Upgrade from Whipped Dog Silvertip

Hello all.

I currently have a Whipped Dog 24/65 Silvertip that I love, and would like to upgrade and/or have a secondary brush.

Some notes:
I face lather
I prefer denser brushes
I prefer a brush with some backbone, but that is also able to splay on my face a little bit when lathering
I prefer softer tips over scritchy ones
I am not tied to Silvertip
I prefer badger over boar & horse, but am open to synthetics
I use mostly soft soaps/croaps (Cella, Proraso, QCS, RazoRock, etc.)

No set price range, I am mainly looking for bang for my buck.

Thoughts?

Thanks B&B!

SOC 2Band Badger or Kimson Vu Silvertip, some of the best SB's i've ever bought! VScent is having a Christmas sale so you can get it even at a bargain price!

I sure like my Simpson's Classic 2 in Best, and I could have written the exact list of preferences you stated. I guess it splays only a little (which is the one place where maybe I differ from you -- if it's soft on the face, I don't like the brush to spread too much), but maybe you too would find the Classic's splay just the right amount. It's very soft against the face yet the high density makes it firm and scrubby (with, I would say, zero scritch or scratch).

I should add that I may want to "upgrade" from my Classic but only in that I wish it carried more heat. For that, the Simpson Chubby and Shavemac D01 have been recommended to me by other B&Bers, but those brushes are quite a bit more costly.

(I've also been told by Ian of Frank Shaving Brushes that silvertip would hold more heat (because the finer bristles hold more water, and thus more heat) and that a bigger brush would hold more heat (because, likewise, a bigger-diameter brush would hold more water); so, how's your Whipped Dog on the holding of heat?)

If you want bang for your buck, you are gonna have a tough time beating a WD silver tip at a reasonable price. A TGN Silver tip A or finest for more backbone can beat out most brushes under $100 as well. Those are probably the best bang for your buck, but there are also options like a Bob Farvor, or Rudy Vey that are great for the price.
