Uneven sides with Mergress

I have the Mergress purchased from LeesRazors.com and I've been noticing that that one side of the razor doesn't seem to shave much whereas the other side seems to be shaving just fine.

As I've replaced blades and look at it, it seems that what is happening is that the top head fits somewhat loosely on the bottom part of the head as you screw it in. Now, as this is my first DE razor, I don't know if this is supposed to be somewhat loose (wiggle slightly sideways <sharp edge to sharp edge>) before you tighten it down (Once tightened down, it is no longer loose) or if it is supposed to be a "perfect" fit (not tight, but with no wiggle room). Now, this wiggle room is really very small; but seems enough that one side of the razor shaves much more aggressive whereas the other side almost doesn't feel like the blade is there.

Anyone else with the Mergress have this kind of issue or is there something with this one? If so, any ideas as to alleviate or minimize this?

One option yet I haven't tried in troubleshooting. Is it something with the Merkur Razor blade? It is really the only one I've had in it to this point. I wonder if I put a different blade in that it would make much of a difference. (I actualy doubt it - but it is an option)

Oh, and also to let it be known - I made sure the Triangle and the Marker Line is matched on the side so-as to be sure I have the top on correctly.

If you just got it, I would contact the LeesRazors and trouble shoot it with them.

I am not a Big Merkur guy, but I know they have had some issues.

Best wishes.....

I had nearly the same problem with my Mergress. Except mine had a noticable aggressive and mild side. I emailed Lee and he had me send it back to them for either repair or replacement. I'm not sure if I'll get another one or if they can fix the one I had. Definately contact Lee, he'll work with you.

I just sold off a Progress which is a Mergress less the knob with absolutely no blade exposure issues. I am sure the buyer will be very please with it.

It's possible the blade is not seating correctly but it seems that your razor is slightly out of alignment. Did you contact Lee's Razors? If so, what was their respons?

This seems to be a common problem with the Progress. My own Progress also has uneven blade exposure. I don't know if they will replace it but give it a try.

One thing I noticed with my progress is that there is a little play in how the blade is held before the head is tightened. I normally place the head on the counter, drop the bade on the cap, then place the razor handle on and tighten it.

Before sending it back, try loosening the blade and shifting it a little to see if it makes a difference.

+1. Since hearing about blade alignment problems in other styles, I align the blade before tightening down the head on any DE these days.

Playing with it this morning, I found that if I turn the head around to where the marker and the triangle pointer are on opposite ends, the blades was even all the way around. The only problem is then that the number didn't line up to 1. Then I turned the head "back" around and the blades were even. Took it apart 2 or 3 times and found that it went back even and proper. Not sure what is up with it, but I will probably play with it some more before sending it in. As it is my only DE Razor, I don't want to have to send it in and be out of a razor for that time.

Simply . . . Will just have to see how things go with it.
