Unbreakable Apothecary Mugs

Hello,

I like the "apothecary" style shaving mugs, with knob handles.

Unfortunately I tend to break them. I picked up a pair of them on sale about 4 years ago, and I've managed to elbow them into the sink or off the counter already.

The cheapest apothecary mugs I've seen are over $20 delivered, so I'm a bit nervous about getting them given my track record.

So does anyone know of a place that sells metal or good-looking plastic apothecary mugs?

PS: In case you were wondering, I get my other shave mugs at goodwill. No worries if a $0.99 hand-me-down gets dropped. But it hasn't happened yet *knock on wood*. As best I can figure, I was cursed by an old witch and now I can't have fine porcelain in my bathroom.

I'd also love to know where I could find apothecary mugs. I'm a sucker for the old-styling of them, but they are hard to come by and I can't justify the $35+ for the the cost of an EJ apothecary. Anyone know of any beside the Col. Conk one that's everywhere?

Use the Fat, Luke!
They're pretty sweet alright. The best is filling your sink with piping hot water and submerging them, so the soap stays warm for your second and third lather.

Knifecenter.com has a hefty stonewear one as well: http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=CC019 . It looks nice, but stoneware is still ceramic, and I doubt it could survive a trip from the counter to the floor …

I have this exact same apothecary mug. It is VERY solid and thick, which I love. It fits a puck of Tabac exactly in the bottom.

I love this mug but I haven't used it in a while. It might be time to pull it out again.

Sounds nice, if only I were allowed to have good ceramic things in my bathroom :frown:.

It would be cool if there was a hard rubber apothecary mug. Marvey makes a standard rubber mug, but it isn't very attractive--it looks like it should be in a '60s camping set.

This is mine. Came with a set including the wonderful Burt's Bees Balm. The soap was awful. The brush wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't shed like a dog.

My ill fated pair were Burt's Bees mugs as well, but they had a bust of Burt's face (flowing beard and all) on the front. It always tickled me that they did that … I mean I certianly wouldn't buy shaving products from someone with a beard like that . That's probably why I found them on clearance…

Shaving mugs are a lot like sunglasses, in my experience. The cheapo, 99 cent Goodwill mug or bowl is seemingly indestructable and last forever but the minute you go high brow and actually spend some money on a mug/scuttle, you can bet it won't last 2 months.
