Unable to stand the aggressiveness of Fatip

Finally put a rest of my Fatip Grande at the moment because my left cheek is having many little bumps after shaving(I am right handle person) but my right cheek though having no little bumps but does not feel much comfortable with it too. I am having a hard time fine-tuning my shaving angle but to no avail. :crying::crying::crying:

This morning, as knew that i can't get to use my Fatip, bring out my 7o'clock OC, the shaving is more soothing/mild and does not hurt the little bumps. And the shave outcome is still acceptable.

But from the picture below(picture shown might not be very clear as closeup shot is too difficult to take), isn't the blade exposed is much more from 7o'clock than fatip? Correct me if i am wrong due to my limited knowledge.

Its all about weight and balance, the Fatip shaves better with a much heavier handle. You can picj from these if it helps

I do have a UFO Goliath arrived yesterday but i use it on my 7o'clock OC rather then Fatip because of my left cheek is still having little bumps, shall wait till it is fully recovered, will then use my Fatip with UFO Goliath handle.

I was about to dump my R-41 over the same issues, but I put a Tradere handle on it and found I had a much more manageable shaver. I can find the right angle faster and maintain it more easily. I'd suspect the same would be true of your FaTip. I have one that, frankly, I don't enjoy much. But the Joris with its longer and heavier handle is a pleasing shaver. Over and over, I've found the handle to be as important as the head as far as the over-all shave quality. Ditto the blade.

I too found the Fatip (piccolo) a little too harsh for me. Regardless of what handle I fitted. The Gillette NEW I purchased from a B&B member a few weeks / months ago has been absolutley brilliant, smooth, easy to use and give easy shaves. I like it so much that the Fatip was put up for sale but it was passed over. I recently took delivery of the Merkur 41C and again this is a superb razor IMHO.

Send me your Fatips and I will make sure they are disposed of properly. I will not let those razors hurt anyone else :biggrin1:

Try a different blade.

I use a Big Ben when I test out any new razor because it is has a stronger emphasis on smoothness over sharpness. If the razor is good for BB then I move up in sharpness to find my favorite for that razor.

Same here i found the Fatip to harsh on my face. So i sold it, Then for some odd reason i purchased another one at a steal ) I'm going to add my Bulldog Weber handle to it and see how it shaves.

Anyone ever add a Bulldog handle to a fatip head? Same head as the joris? If you did how did the shave go?

So, no one has even attempted to answer his question? Astounding.

I will answer the question. The answer is "no." There is definitely NOT more blade exposure on the 7 o'clock. There is a wider blade GAP on the 7 o'clock, but the FaTip has more blade EXPOSURE. Gap and exposure are not the same.

I don't find the FaTip to be harsh at all. Angle and technique have to be spot on to avoid irritation, though, because of the blade exposure. It is actually one of my top two razors. Sorry you didn't enjoy it.

I have purchased 3 Fattips over the last 2 weeks and am getting the best shaves of my life. Bought the nickel Grande about two weeks ago and quickly fell in love. Just had to try the Piccolo and it arrived 3 days ago along with a Gold Grande (mainly for looking at (g) what a beautiful razor). Two days now on the Piccolo and now I can't decide which I love more, the Grande or the Piccolo.

First day with the Piccolo had a little skipping, I think due to the lighter handle (and maybe the brand new Prema-Sharp blade) but this morning was pure bliss.

I am afraid to say that the Slant has been dethroned as king of my den.

I'm curious what the OP was shaving with before the Fatip. If he'd been using a Super Speed the Fatip might come as a shock. I'd been using Gillette Long Comb when I got my Fatip, so the transition wasn't dramatic.

Such a Great razor.

I'm using a Fatip this week after using an R41 last week. It's like a Tech without a blade!

It does look like there is more blade hanging out there, but you also have to consider the blade angle that is presented. In relation to the comb, the Fatip has the blade pointing up a little more than the other.

I use my Fatip Grande Nickel with an Ikon Bulldog handle which gives it a balance which suits me much betterr when compared with the original handle. The blade I prefer with it is Astra SP. I hope this gives you some hints of how to improve its performance.

.

+ 1 If you look at how close the razor is to the edge of the teeth, you will see it is closer to the teeth on the FaTip as opposed to the 7 o'clock providing a great exposure and making it more "aggressive".
Good luck.

Great....spot on. What other razor is more harsh other then R41 which is known to be more aggressive than Fatip?

I only use my Fatip after a couple of days growth. Yes it's a bit aggressive but no where near the 2011 R41 IMHO. Just have to take your time and don't use a super sharp type blade (Feather, Kai, Black, SI). I like to use Med Preps and they work well for me with the Fatip.

I've been using a Grande for a couple of weeks with little problem. I use a smooth blade, and a shallow angle, and the first WTG pass is astounding. I have found though it tends to punish skimping on prep.

I couldn't agree more. I feel that the New is the best shaving razor ever made by Gillette.

Gus/BOTOC

I typically use a New but break out the Fatip on occasion. I too find it much more aggressive than the New. I get best results when I use a very shallow angle. I've noticed that the Fatip has a lot of unsupported blade and wonder if this makes it prone to have some blade flex or vibrations when used at a steeper angle. Just a thought.
