Merkur Futur - Wow!

I know there have been countless threads about this razor, but I wanted to share my experience. I've been DE shaving ~25 yrs or so but nothing prepared me for the Futur. Granted, I don't normally shave with adjustables, so I am at a little disadvantage. Normally, I'll grab an English SS or HD34. So I was gifted a brand new Futur, right? I thought, eh what the hell - looks cool. Tried it with a Derby - since I had some laying around - at a 2. I literally shaved off a little chunk of my chin. Then I moved it to a 1.5 (shaving when you're cut sucks) and finished. Today, on a 1.5, still had a couple of weepers. Tomorrow, I'll try it on a 1. Who the hell is this razor for, really? I'm an average beard and on a 1 setting, I think it might STILL be too much. So, perhaps if some guys have an ultra coarse beard or serious growth (again, I'm avg and shave once a day) the "options" of the other numbers might work. Not for me. At lest so far.

I hear you Its an effective potato peeler, but for some its a shaver, i don't get it, but ymmv..

I picked up a clone about 8 years or so ago. I was on a facebook shaving forum and everybody was saying for $15 this clone was just about as close as a perfect clone as they have seen. i usually do 2-3 when I use it but am scared of it and it takes twice as long as my others because i have peeled part of face off in the past with this thing. God concept but just scares the hell out of me.

Knowing that you favour an aggressive shave, I kind of assumed you already had one... It is certainly your kind of razor

I have no ideia how it shaves but I think it’s the ugliest design and razor I’ve seen. I can’t get past that.

Adjustables firstly are not meant for everyone to just be dialing up and down and all around....like some people like to start at the top and work their way down and yada yada yada....but honestly adjustables for me are a set it and forget it affair. The way I see most adjustables is that the number sort of kind of corresponds to the amount of growth you have. So if you shave every day or two youll probably wanna use it on the lowest setting. If you shave once every one or two weeks for me atleast maybe I would crank it up a little bit to deal with that growth. For me personally I have a rex ambassador and it works well for me in 1 pass mapping out my beard growth and putting it on setting 1. I can still cut myself easily because its so efficient even at the lower levels but still im totally fine using it on the lowest setting. I dont need to be a macho guy and crank it up and use it on all the settings to prove my might! Some people find out they can only use an adjustable at the lowest setting and then they get upset and think its not for them because they cant use it on 6! or its not for them because they cant be "the cool guy that uses it on 9" but thats not the point at all. The point is that the designer is offering you a razor thats supposed to be usable for alot of different people with alot of different amounts of hair growth. How fast and thick your hair grows is part of it but its not the whole deal. The rex for example was designed to cut down all you got in 1 pass. The designer likes doing 1 pass shaves so he made a razor that really does well with a 1 pass XTG ATG type of shave. I dont know much about the futur but people complain about it alot. I would love to try one with a 1 pass shave on the lowest setting to see what I can accomplish with 2 days of growth. Nothing wrong with using an adjustable on 1 especially if you shave once a day. Thats pretty normal if you ask me.

same man. The negative comments about the rex made me get one and I love it. I dont use it all the time but when I do use it its pretty good and all my other razors are mild. So if that tells you anything.....
