What's new

Uh oh Red Tip

So I got a deal on a Red Tip on ebay the other week. It was in better condition than I thought it to be from the auction picture. Looks to be missing about 1/4 of the red paint though. I've had two great shaves with it so far.

I cleaned it with scrubbing bubbles, dish soap, hot water, rubbing alcohol, and a toothbrush. Cleaned up nicely. However, this morning a sliver of paint came off during my shave. Now for the point of this post: Can this be prevented? Is there a good way to "seal" the paint?

I don't necessarily want to repaint it, but I don't want to end up with a silver tip- red tip!

Also, I am sure this question has been asked, but the search omits three-letter words; plus I haven't started a thread in a while.

If you do decide to repaint it then somewhere on here there is a post or possibly several posts that tell us what the commonly accepted replacement paint for a red tip is.

I don't know where to begin to find it, but i've seen it.

You could seal over the remaining red paint with clear nail polish.

I might give that a try. Thanks.

I have seen it too, but "red" and "tip" are both too short for the search function. I'm not really sure what to search for.

The paint loss doesn't affect the razor's shaving performance; so if you bought it to use; I wouldn't worry about it If you think you may sell it later; you have a dilemma: some folks expect normal wear and don't like attempts at making things appear new If you do decide to touch up the paint; or to cover it with a protective finish; be sure to let a buyer know you have done so

I too recently took delivery of a red Tip recently with some of the paint coming off the tip. I went to a hobby shop locally and found a very close match called Ferrari Red-gloss enamel by Humbrol. It comes in a 14ml little can. Here is the web site URL http://www.humbrol.com/search/?searchguid=20106921243
I applied about 4 coats and it did a pretty darn good job. Never thought, but you could try using clear nail polish as a sealer after painting. Try a hobby shop in your area. Good luck

Thanks, but I can't imagine buying it in a quantity small enough to suit my needs.

I will likely take my razors to the grave.

That's probably a better source than trying an auto parts store for a small quantity of paint. Unfortunately the last two hobby shops that I knew of have closed down in the last couple years. I will check around though.

Thanks.
