What's new

Two weeks in and I'm loving' it!

OK, so I'm a newbie to wet shaving with a DE razor. I got interested from following the forums while I was shopping for some shaving soaps to use with an older pure badger brush. After purchasing some Conk, Proraso, Thayers, Trumper, a Merkur HD and a new silver tip brush I never knew what I was missing.

I've had about 20 small nicks along the way and two rather sever slices on an upper cheek bone so far. These were not fun but definitely good learning experiences.

I just tried my first Derby blade having used Merkurs before and optimized my technique a little and finally have gotten that fantastic shave and nice moisturized skin that I was looking for. The shaves are taking me about 20 minutes right now when I use the new technique (3 passes with almost no pressure other than weight of the razor) but the results are phenomenal. I'm about 98% there to pure BBS skin and this morning did not have even one small nick.

Just wanted to share my failures and successes with the community for consideration.

Enjoy,

- Vince

Welcome! You are doing great. Listen to the razor, learn from the feedback of the blade.
Please remember to check in to the Newbie check in. Some great information there. Also read the Wiki and embrace your AD's.

Let us know how it goes.

Welcome to the forums :)

I think you'll find that as time passes and experience grows you'll improve your technique.

I'd also recommend trying different blades, as each person has a different prefence on what works for them.
For myself I am still going through my own sampler set, but saw a big difference from one to the next.
just make sure to use one or two for at least a week before you pass judgement and move on.

Where did the time go?

It has been over two years and I'm a wetshaving veteran! Loving it and glad I stuck with it. I've been lurking on the forums for most of that time, but I'm ready to share what I've learned. Hope to not be so much of a lurker going forward.
