Two weeks DE Shaving

Hi Guys. I have been using a Wilkinson Sword Classic with the blades that came with it for two weeks. I am still finding that post shave, the shaved area feels sore (although not red). I sahve daily, in the morning for work and have changed the blades once a week. My beard area in dark around the goatee area, but minimal elsewhere. Should I be changing the blades more often? I want to move up to a Merkur HD but want to make sure I have got the hang of DE shaving first or should I get a Merkur as this will get over the soreness?

Any suggestions would appreaciated

Many thanks, Rousey

Rousey,

You may be trying to squeeze too many shaves out of a single blade. Further, you may be using a blade that doesn't fully agree with your skin and beard type.

Rousey, that redness and sore areas are probably being caused by your either scraping your skin with the edge of the blade, or, you need to better discover the grain of your beard because accidently running into a change of hair growth direction can lead to bumps, blood and in-grown hairs.

If you start out using very short strokes with the grain and feel the blade start to pull, stop! Your hairs might have just changed direction at that point and you have to proceed at a different angle.

You don't mention what your prep is like. Using a cream and soap combo can provide a really slick base for that blade to glide over.

Thanks Guys for the responses. I am presently washing my face pre-shave with REN cleanser and using shave cream and brush from the Body Shop. I like the cream but the brush is rubbish; hairs are already coming out but it only cost £4 ($8), so I guess I couldn't expect to much.

Thanks gain, Rousey
