Turkish shaves

So I was watching youtube videos about shaving and I ran across traditional turkish wet shaves and it was pretty normal except when they pulled out what looked like a flaming cotton ball on a stick and slapped on a freshly shaved face. Then they pinched what looked like thread across the face as well. Does anyone know what purpose those two things serve?

They use it to burn stray hairs eg off the ears, etc. I've had it done to myself, and yes it felt weird.

When I was in Sydney, Australia, a guy was set on fire because they applied aftershave and then the flame and boom, he was alight.

And the thread they use to shape the beard (pulling out the hairs rather than shaving) since some Turkish men prefer the designer stubble look. Threading lasts longer than shaving (its like waxing I suppose)

Asian woman have been doing this for years on legs, face anywhere that has hair. I learned this 15 years ago. And surprisingly it didn't hurt more then waxing.. ( had to wax/ string method my legs so I cAn wrap my knee for football)

Lol off topic. Look on instructables.Com about the kid that teaches how to shave with a lighter

And why the heck would they do something that made them have to wait longer to shave??
