Tsushima Black Nagura

I really like this stone. It's on the slow side, and a bit messy - but it's soooo nice to hone on that I don't mind.
It's a mid range stone. I started on the Botan Toishi, moved to the Tsushima, and followed it with a Mejiro Toishi.
Finishing will be done on the Okudo with Koma then Tomo Nagura.
That's a Greaves hanging out there. Yeah - the spine is taped. The face of the spine is engraved and I don't want to mess it up.
I hate using tape - I really do. But - I felt like I had no choice - it was either tape it or lose the etch.

Cool looking stone. Do you find using JNAT's pre-finishing gives a different feel to the edge rather than using synthetics and a jnat to finish on?

Here we go.

Yes - there's a difference. And I really don't care who says what about that. :001_smile

Wow, that's a big rock! Congrats, and enjoy! I can't blame you for taping to save an etch. I also don't blame folks for taping to save other things worth saving...

Thanks everyone - I've had it a while; I want to start using it more now that I've figured it out a little bit.

Looks like enough rock for quite a few generations. If I may ask, what's with the tape-like stratification or buckling on the side of the hone?

Man. Glad I have a piece of Koma.
The piece in question is 7 x 2 x 1.5" and over 800 g.

Tsushima's are prone to splitting if you don't seal the sides. I believe that they alternate the layers of Urushi with thin layera of very thin paper to help reinforce the stone's sides. It's on the smaller Nagura in the background too.

Personally, I think the stone is simply a relabeled Chinese 12K....
I don't see any labels.

Some people just wanna see the world burn

Burn baby burn... Took me a few weeks to come to terms with it. The razors are numbered and personalized. I just couldn't wipe that off.
