What's new

trying speed stick again

This was my first deodorant and I love the scent (the original). Over the years I have become sensitive to deodorants and many of them give me a rash in a couple of days. Years ago I went back to Speed Stick and though I could wear it before, I no longer could.

I just tried it again yesterday and today, so far so good, but today will be the telling day on whether I break out.

On a side note, what is the main scent profile of speed stick? I would love to find a cologne, EDT, aftershave, anything that smells like that.

To me the original Speed Stick smells fresh and green. Maybe similar to Aspen or something like it. Also, Skin Bracer is made by the same company (Mennen), so I usually think of them as going together.

I like the green original speedstick too, but I have the same issue. Almost no deodorant irritates my skin, but that one does. Good luck.

So day two was indeed the tipping point. Completely red and irritated under the arms today. Now I need to find something that smells like it instead.

FWIW, I find that my pits have a "breaking in" period when switching deodorants. Usually the initial irritation wears off after a bit.

I like the original Speedstick also and I used it for many years along with the original Old Spice deodorant. However I became sensitive to them and break out in a rash. I ended up switching to an all natural deodorant. The past month I tried the Speedstick again and it caused me to break out under my arm's. I've been using Clubman Fine Talc the past few day's while the rash heals and it has been working very well for me. To me the original Speedstick smells like my Vi Jon Brisk Aftershave which is a clone for original Skinbracer.

I will have to revisit Skinbracer. I recall using it when I first learned to shave, but I can't remember the scent.

I hear ya on that. This is an issue I have had for many years, I have to be very careful what deodorants I use or it happens. I can wait a couple days, try them again and same result.

I'm about done with a stick of original Speed Stick. I love the scent, and I didn't have any irritation issues. But, it doesn't last the day on me. I can usually smell some B.O. Near the end of the day. I might have to go back to an antiperspirant/deodorant. I might try the Irish Spring scented Speed Stick, as the soap is a staple in my shower.

I like the scent of Speed Stick Original and it doesn't irritate me at all. It only lasts about eight hours for me, but I just reapply because I like everything else about it.

Me too. And it's a shame, because I like the old school vibe of Speed Stick and the spicy green scent. But it inevitably gives me rashes and redness. I usually use Old Spice Pure Sport gel, and have never had a problem.

Speedstick is indeed an excellent deoderant. The problem comes when some men use too much. The modern incarnation is VERY strong and one swipe is really all that's needed for most men. Mennen, or whoever is producing it now, has upped the scent strength in the latest version to be more of a cologne. It's meant to have sillage.

Skin Bracer aftershave is thee same scent as Speedstick (let it dry down) and is an excellent accompaniment to the deodorant. Skin Bracer is very mild and formulated to be very hypo allergenic so it will be very easy on freshly shaven skin (as well as very cooling because of the high dose of menthol!).

Hope this helps.
