Trying snuff

Ok I have not a clue as to why, but I wanted to try snuff for the first time. I am not a cig, chewing tobacco user and just occasionally smoke cigars and pipe. I know I know, I have no nicotine addiction and yet I want to try it, must be something wrong with me. I know a few local dealers sell snuff in my area, and I was hoping for a little info as to what to try.

I would be curious to know what local (USA) stuff you can get a hold of. I can't get any of mine around here to carry anything but Garrett. Well they will if I buy a case of 4oz tins at a time!
Not much, my local Winn-Dixie has a few cans of sweet scotches (Navy sweet, Railroad Mills sweet) that have probably been there for years, which is annoying as I don't like the sweets, it's basically what never sold and I doubt they will be ordering anymore.

Locally you will probably only find American Scotches, which is how I started but is a tough way to start for the beginner.

I take it that aged snuff isn't as desirable as aged pipe tobacco? I recently learned that it's fairly easy to make your own snuff from pipe tobacco, so I wonder why aging pipe tobacco doesn't translate so well to aging snuff (if in fact I'm correct in my assumption).

Well in the case of aged pipe tobacco, it mellows and becomes smoother, for smoking purposes this is good in most cases, as for snuff the fresher the more flavorful it is.
