What's new

Tried the Wilkinsword blades Walmart sells.

Been gone for a week at summer camp with my Boyscout troop. While there I realized I forgot my blades so I bought some Wilkinsword blades at Walmart and I have to say for me they work better than both versions of Personna I have tried and a lot better than the shark blades I tried. They seem super sharp, I nicked myself the first day but I seem to be getting a DFS with two passes and I'm real close to BBS in two. I didn't do any three pass shaves at camp not enough time plus in the woods I had to use goo in a can. But today was my first three pass shave and I got a BBS or really darn close I had one tiny spot I missed but I love these blades, smooth, sharp and cheap, plus I can get them at all of my Local Wamart. Another bonus is my ATG seems to be a lot smoother due to the sharpness.

They say made in Germany and seem to be of excellent quality. Any thoughts from the members I bought just one ten pack and plan to give them a 10 blade try. It also seems I get 4 to 5 solid shaves.

the German made Wilkinson blades are nothing to sneeze at. Nice. Sharp. Moderately smooth.

A good one to find if you are completely out of blades or you forgot to take some or did not take enough.

When I travel I take between 90 and 100 blades... Ya never can tell what will happen so you should "be prepared"... Gee where have I hear that before :001_smile

Nice one! This was my first summer camp as a DE shaver thought I had my 10 pack Personnas but alas I had left them on the sink. So when I stopped to buy some propane I bought the Wilkinsword blades and found a blade I really like. We did win Honor Troop had a very good week. Being a Scoutmaster of the Troop going on 6 years I stress "Be Prepared" but the funny part is go into the Walmart close to camp and you see a steady stream of Scoutmasters getting prepared. :D

Thanks for the post.

First blade I ever used. I had no problem with it. Dunno if I'm rushing out to buy more right now. But if I needed blades and they were available I'd have no problem using them.

The Walmart Wilkinson are the ones I use the most. Considering the are the only one I can get locally other than derby. I can usually get BBS after 3 passes and a little touch-up and get 4 sometime 5 shaves out of a blade.

These are a treasure for the price. They are also on offer in Germany and Switzerland in drugstores, normally as the only choice but for a significantly higher price. I have stocked up on them a lot and keep buying more. I find them thicker and stiffer than feather and Astra but they are the smoothest and most forgiving I have tried. They are particularly great in a slant razor I find.

These were the first blades I tried once I'd used up the Boots' own brand blades that came with my first razor. I really had very good shaves with them, even after just a couple of weeks DE shaving. Much, much better than so many other blades I've used. If they were on sale in shops here I'd happily buy them instead of mail ordering Feathers.

I want to like them- but I seem to get irritation each time I try them. Dont know if it is because they are sharper than the Astra's but my neck doesn't like them!

The Wilkinson Sword seem to wear much faster, in my experiance. I like the Base Exchange blades (rebranded personna's) and they're sold for $1.49/10 at the BX. They last me all week with an occasional weeper/nick on fridays. I haven't tried too many blades (Wilkinson, Personna's, Merkur, Shark Super Chrome will be next), so this is a small sampling.

Wilkies are very good to me. The very first time I loaded one in my razor I thought it was passable. By the time I got through the first pack it was in my list of top 5 blades. I may go so far as saying it's my #2 go to blade.

Same here. I tried the Wilks but only got 2 good shaves from them. Astras and Feathers are my go-to's, especially since I can get 100 Astras for $11 shipped.

I'm surprised to hear that the Wilk blades are said to be cheap to purchase. I just bought some at Walmart here in Canada and they are $16 for 10!! I have no experience with other blades but I do like them so far.

I really like Swords... almost as much as Astra SP s and very accessible and affordable. Really works well with my SuperSpeed TV Special.

I'm on shave number 4 still sharp and only a tad loss of smoothness. These have jumped ahead of my Personna lab blues and may even surpass the Medical Personna's. I try another round when I change blades to confirm my findings.

Here in Devon I can get a five pack of German Wilkinsons for less than £1 from some of the independent chemists
I've been a bit of a "blade tourist" and only been interested in exotic blades, but I tried the Wilkinson in my thin handle Old Type and it was great- smooth sharp and reliable.
We're blessed actually cos I can get ten Israeli Personnas from ASDA for £1.90 and ten Supermax Stainless/ Blue Super Stainless for £1 from a chemist and a Sikh supermarket in Torquay...

I like them. Not my absolute favorite, but seems to work well for me like an Astra. I rarely try to use a blade for more than 3 shaves so I can't say if they are long lasting. For the prices I see online I'd probably order Polsilvers, Silver Blues or pay a bit more for Feathers, but it's comforting to know there is a blade I like that's available at my local Wal-Mart.

Wow here in the states I get 10 blades for $1.97 at Walmart. Update I changed the blade after 4 shaves and I was really tired today so i just did a two pass WTG and XTG using my 78 SS and I got a really nice shave very very close to a DFS if not DFS. So as it stands the Wilkinsword and Personna Medicals are my top two but I still want to try several other brands, but it is nice to be able to go to the store and buy a favorite blade without ordering on the net.
