What's new

Tried something new (for me) today, Pinaud Clubman aftershave.

I'm a 33 year old guy. I come from a generation where men were taught that using as many blades as possible was the right way to shave. Recently I decided to trash my multi-blade razor in favor of a DE blade. As much as shaving has been "modernized" and, as a result, made much more expensive, I decided to go old school and try some more traditional stuff. So far my transition has been largely successful. Today presented the opportunity to replace yet another item in my old arsenal...my aftershave. I purchased a bottle of the classic Pinaud Clubman aftershave. Seriously...this stuff is excellent. It is refreshing and left my skin feeling great. It also has a very appealing and manly scent that even my wife likes. Well...it looks like another piece of my old routine just went into retirement.

Grad to hear it! Clubman is part of my daily routine. I love the stuff. And the cool thing is, there are a bunch of different varieties of the Pinaud line! Welcome to a bigger brighter world!

I have yet to try Pinaud Clubman. I have many, many aftershaves in my den.... but it seems I'm saving the Pinaud Clubman experience for a day to be named in the future for some reason. I see it in the drugstores and super markets all the time.... but I just won't buy it for some reason. I've read so many guys say that they love it and that "even SWMBO loves the scent".... almost like you're not supposed to love it.... like it's a guilty pleasure. I'm a bit intrigued by what is argueably the most recognized AS out there.... but I just have not felt an overwhelming urge to try it. Someday I will.... and there's a very good chance I will enjoy it. There haven't been too many AS out there that I don't like.... but, for now, Pinaud Clubman will remain a mystery to me.

I too made the switch a few months back. I came to traditional shaving as an escape form the silly prices of cheap throw away 6 blade monsters. LOL.

LOVE my DE razors... although I don't think I have saved any money at all. LOL BY CHOICE, i have enjoyed acquiring a few nice razors, brushes, soaps, creams and aftershaves.

Clubman original was one of the first. I love it, my girlfriend loves it and when I don't wear it she says "Hey, that's not your smell". :) So life is good!

CLUBMAN FOR THE WIN!

there is a time and a place for clubman - always and everywhere. it's like splashing manliness onto your face. now go take on the world.

Haha...thanks rushchairman. I assume you're a Jersey guy as well? I have to totally agree though...this stuff is like liquid manliness. I even splashed a bit on me this morning before work even though I didn't shave this morning. Really diggin it.

Looks like you have made all the right decisions so far.

Next is to try some of the other Pinaud after shaves. they are all smartly priced and have fantastic "old time barbershop" scents.

I am traveling with clubman and clubman special reserve. Two opposites of their scent spectrum.

Not far ahead of you at 36, but I have fond memories of the old barbershop I got my hair cut as a kid. Hard wood floors/walls/ceiling. Hint of tobacco in the air along with a plethora of other scents that all combined into something I didn't realize I loved till years later.

Today, the two things that take me back there are Tobac and Pinaud Clubman. I don't even know if they used either at my old barbershop, but it was instant memory lane the moment I smelled either of them.

Classic, manly and both are cheap to boot.

It is truly great stuff, an essential staple in any rotation. I think the classic scents are very appealing, especially because they have been forgotten or are ignored by the mainstream. So what was once a somewhat ubiquitous scent now has an air of uniqueness. Suffice to say a true classic will never die.

Glad to hear you tried Clubman. It's my favorite aftershave so far. I was hesitant to spend the money on it 6 months back because my finances were so tight and I wasn't sure if I would like it. So, I peeled off the seal of a bottle in the store to smell it. I immediately, and without hesitation, bought that very bottle. I'm not old enough for the smell to bring back memories of the barber shop from my youth, but I love the scent anyway. I'm very anxious to try the lime variety.

I was driving around killing time with my 9 year old daughter after picking her up from ballet while my older son was at baseball practice and my younger son was at football practice and she and I stopped at a Rite Aid. I finally did it. I bought some Pinaud Clubman. Until tonight, I've only read about it. But now, I finally know what it is like. I opened the bottle in the truck with my daughter sitting there and the smell took over the cab. I dribbled some into the palm of my hand without saying a word to my daughter. She said "Is that.... aftershave?" I said "Yeah" and I handed her the open bottle while I rubbed my palms together and then rubbed it on my face. I had shaved about 2 hours earlier so I seemed fitting to do. She looked at the bottle and said "It's from France." I said "Yeah" (I can be a man of many words at times). She said "Does all aftershave come from France?" She remembers me showing her a flask bottle of Creed GIT with the raised "Paris, France" on the bottom of the flask. I said "Oh... no. Some, but not all." About a minute later, we both got headaches from the Pinaud fumes in the cab of the truck and had to go to K-mart to kill some more time and get some fresh air. Powdery and strong. It's okay I guess. Reminds me alot of Canoe.... but a little better. I took a couple Tylenol about a half and hour ago and the headache is going away. I think I will like it a little better when I apply it in the open right after a shave.... that's what I'm thinking.
