What's new

tried some new gear

I finally got around to trying the omega brush and omega soap that came last week. I also got some assorted razor blades and decided to pop in an astra superior platinum. I'm even more impressed with the DE shaving thing than I was with vdh brush/soap and wilkies. Today I experienced VERY little irritation; almost none. The omega soap works like a charm. My only minor complaint is the 49 brush is so freakin' long ! Don't get me wrong, it's not floppy; it's just much longer than I am accustomed to. The diameter of the bush is good, although a touch on the larger side. It takes a tad more time to load this brush because you have to be more careful not to be too messy. In general though, I like the brush, no scritch and smells fine out of the box; though after it's first use, it now smells like a wet boar; no big deal, it will fade with time.

Hopefully I enjoy the rest of the blade assortment as much as the astras, though that will probably not be the case.

the assortment that I pieced together is:
green 7 oclock, yellow 7 oclock, astra sp, astra ss, bic chrome platinum, crystal platinum chrome, lord platinum, shark super chrome, super-max platinum. While I'm at it, I'll put in a plug in for qedusa, nice guy and one of the east coast suppliers, for me that meant faster less costly shipping than the west coast suppliers.

Does omega make a brush that is similar in knot diameter and hair length to the vdh boar ?

I haven't used the vdh. So i can't give exact advice. However, the badger and blade boar on west coast shaving is made by omega and is much smaller than the 49. The handle is very easy to work with.

An update:
I'm starting to get used to the omega 49. It is a much better brush than the vdh. Also, the omega soap is a step up from the vdh deluxe I was used to. Over labor day weekend, I tried the lord platinums; they seemed similar to a Wilkinson blade. This week so far, I'm on my second shave with a crystal super platinum. To me, they seem sharp, yet not as smooth as the astras. So far, I like the astras SPs best. They are a good combo of sharp, yet smooth.
