I emailed New York Shaving Company about shaving cream samples, and they sent me four samples free of charge. So far I've only sniffed the Lemon (smells like Pledge), Sandalwood (a cologne-type sandalwood) and the Elizabeth Street (classic fougere). I was disapointed that the samples didn't include the Tonsorial or the Lavender, but hey, beggers can't be choosers. Anyway, tonight I tried the Old St. Patrick.
Performance was sub-par to be honest. I found it to have very little cushion (which I don't mind) and almost no slickness (which I do mind). Combined with my Fatip, it made for a rather uncomfortable shave. In all fairness, though, it was a fairly small sample, and I only used half. Tomorrow I will try using the entire sample of one of the other scents to see if it makes a difference.
That was the bad news, but now for the good news. The scent is absolutely heavenly! (No pun intended.) Unfortunately I'm no good at describing scents, but it reminds me of something my Granddad would have worn - in a good way!. He was a classy, sharp-dressed kind of guy. Even if I decide the ceams are absolute crud, I will be looking to aquire the AS or the EDT.
