What's new

Tried buying some MdC yesterday and was Rejected!

This really has nothing to do with MdC as much as my stupid credit card company. I was completing my order on the Martin de Candre website and my credit card was rejected. Now, let me first say that I'm a financially responsible individual (well, as responsible as a guy can be that's willing to pay $60 for a shave soap) and I am never anywhere close to the max limit on my card.

I thought, "huh, that's weird I wonder why that happened", but then the phone rang and it was the fraud department of my credit card company. The lady asked if I just tried placing an order with a company in France, and I told her that I did. Then she said, "OK, we just wanted to make sure it was you and we'll allow the transaction". So I guess spending $60 on a shave soap is a little weird to my credit card company as well.

I know that my credit card company is just looking out for my financial security and I do appreciate them being proactive, but I was already having reservations about spending so much on a soap and the rejection just seemed like a divine sign of intervention.

Anyway, I stopped listening to the little angel on my shoulder and high-5'd the little devil on the other as I hit the buy button for a second time.

Just a little levity for the morning. Have a great day!

It's funny how that little red bastard always seems to win out in times like this! No buyer's remorse, brother! I can't say from experience, but from what I have heard on here, you are in for a treat! Life is too short to use soaps and creams that suck!

I look forward to your review and pics!!!!! :biggrin1:

I am always thankful when the credit card companies do this to me. It is annoying, but a couple times they called it was about purchases that were not mine. It's much easier than trying to fix these things after the fact

+1

I totally agree. I've had this happen a couple times before when I was feeding my other addiction, camera gear. The prices of shave soap is a drop in the bucket compared to my 300mm f/2.8 or 200mm f/2. I was a little surprised when 2 tubs of MdC set off the alarm bells.

Probably bc it was from a different country.

+1. I have had some issues with my credit card company recently. They rejected a $600 order for cell phones that I placed with Verizon a few weeks ago but which went through recently and another order with an overseas company. When I spoke to the fraud department rep she told me that recently there has been an upsurge in fraudulent activity and recommended that if I plan to place an "unusual order" (a large order, a large order with a merchant you haven't used before, a telephone or internet order that is over $500, etc.) to call the fraud department in advance. She even gave me a direct number to call.

Fraud prevention is great obv, though sometimes it is annoying or even ridiculous. One time I had my card frozen and had to call customer service. They claimed there was fraudulent activity when I got gas a 1/2 a mile from my house (that I go to EVERY week) and bought an ice cream at Coldstone.

I'd love to buy some MdC, but the conversion rate is just sooooo bad right now.

Because I don't use it a lot, my credit card gets declined every Black Friday about half way through the day due to "abnormal spending habits".
They don't tell you why it's declined at the time, so you get to look like a deadbeat and wonder what's wrong.

I then have to call them and tell them that it's the biggest shopping day of the year and that my wife is buying Christmas presents.
Then they turn it back on again without issue.

It's a computer generated risk based program to detect fraud that shuts it down automatically.
It's based on variables such as spending habits, abnormal transactions, etc. It's not an actual person declining you.
I do try to be understanding because it is nice when they do catch fraudulent activity.

Maybe I'll call them ahead of time this year and give them a heads up, like you're supposed to do when you know you are going to be traveling out of the country or making a large purchase.

This very thing happened to me a few days ago. I was trying to order three jars and it didn't go through. This was not the first time it's happened to me. Must be something about MdC's website that sends off the red flags and sirens with the credit card companies. Funny thing is that I called my credit card company back to verify that it was indeed "me" who was trying to place the order.... and then I had to call them back again and actually talk to a real person to find out whether or not the order was fulfilled or not. He said that it wasn't and that I would have to place the order again if I wanted it to go through. I got so fed up with the whole thing that I didn't go back and place the order because I didn't want to mess around with it anymore. I bought a ATT Titan Razor instead.

Usually there's a red flag when trying to order from a different country. That's all there is to it.

I for one am glad they have these measures in place :D

It's too late for this order, but I'll keep this in my back pocket. Thanks a lot!

MdC is amazing... I told myself I would never, ever spend that kind of money on a shave soap - gimme a break...
Then a "buddy" gave me a sample. A tiny amount that produced ten amazing shaves with gobs and gobs of lather...
I was hooked... You will never look back... :)
