Scammers beware

Just wanted to put this out there to maybe help some people.

I have watched on other sites this week you can buy from 3 guys all getting scammed on razors. Yes the scammers are now taking photos of high dollar razors and the description and scamming people.

The scammers are also all over paintball forums, and no matter what anyone says on this forum also.

Below are some things to look out for to help so you not scammed.

1. User name looks weird or not like it should

2. Past sales if they have no sales or less than 3-4 be aware, not saying they are a scammer but it’s a red flag.

3. Description of the item. With no sales ever or not selling let’s say razors is the description look like it was written by someone that knows what they are talking about

4. Ask them questions before buying, ask something really stupid like does that razor take the new floating blades that Wilco came out with.

Floating blades is made up and Wilco same. If they say yes scammer alart

5. Scammers prey on what someone wants and the price. Like my mom always said when it’s to good to be true its normally BS. I see it with paintball markers all the time. Here is a 1,600.00 marker listed for 400.00 oh my god it’s mine and your scammed

6. Pay pay goods and services ONLY do not pay with anything else your money is not secured. Not with cash app, venom, PayPal friends and family, only PayPal goods and services.

All legitimate sellers will take this payment. That is all I will use even with guys I deal with private. It covers both parties

7. I’m sure someone will reply back you can call your credit card company Wrong. Reason is they can’t verify your purchase or if it was a scam.

Fb market place is scammer city, yes there are good people selling items and like most have no clue. Do some research on the person look them up, do they sell a lot or is it a 1 off. If it’s a 1 off for decent money be careful

I hope this helps some people. I hate to see people scammed but biggest thing scammers prey on your impulse to buy due to the price being rock bottom

Two kinds of people in world Good, and Bad. The internet is wonderful tool, but not everything that is good deal is real deal.

Do your homework, use a credit card, so you can dispute MISADVENTURES.
No scammer will take a credit card because it can be disputed. What you can’t dispute are the ways to pay I noted above. You can drop 10k on Venmo and your credit card company will do nothing your screwed
Even card company’s are not adding it to the fine print

Also, if a product you want becomes unavailable due to popularity of product and shows up in great quantity on sites you never heard of or saw before, beware. Some of these sites will have different names but their page setup are same format. Also when you put item in cart and go to check out they will tell you that you need to put more stuff in the cart and they only take bit coin or another form of payment I've never heard of.

The pedant in me has to point out that Wilco, actually Wilko is a British store and they sell razors and blades!

Good advice though.

Thanks for the heads up.

I know this stuff is out there but good to know whatever you can.

Just out of curiosity what do you mean by "User name looks weird or not like it should"? Usernames can be really odd even when they're legitimate.

8. And something else, gleaned from websites that sell high-end watches: ask for an image where the item is arranged in a certain, not common way (e.g. head of the razor shown under the handle).

If the owner is legitimate, it should not be a problem.
If the image is taken from somewhere else, they will be unable to accommodate the request.

Make it hard for scammers to reach your wallet…

Thank you for the detailed and helpful post! Indeed, one should always be vigilant when shopping online. I am especially grateful that you shared such specific tips and warned about common scams. From now on, I will pay more attention to details and follow your recommendations.

A few years ago, I did my due diligence as you suggest, and got a wonderful razor from a longtime member. I've never had any problems, but scammers are getting more and more slick in their approaches.

Just out of curiosity what do you mean by "User name looks weird or not like it should"? Usernames can be really odd even when they're legitimate.

I think this is referencing not the actual username, but the way it looks when there’s a picture with a name and date written (which most BST’s require). It’s a common scammer technique to pull a picture of an item and digitally “write in” their username and the current date, and it will often look weird or abnormal since it’s not an actual handwritten note being photographed live with the actual item.
