Tricked Out Corn Cob Pipes!

I picked up some fancy replacement bits for two of my Corn Cob pipes. I purchased these from an Ebay seller called CornCobPipes.

These have the major benefit of also converting the pipe to being non-filtered. They are quite a bit cheaper than the "forever stems" costing $12.95 each + $1.99 shipping.

The Washington is wearing a Ocean Blue Lucite "Mini Churchwarden" bit. The bit is straight, with no curve. It's 4.5" long, so you can still pass a standard length pipe cleaner through it to clean it.

The Country Gentleman is wearing a color called Carmel Ripple. This bit is quite large, with the end of the bit/ mouthpiece being well over 5/8" wide.

So far I am really enjoying these new additions.

SNAZZY!! Are they not polished? I guess the pic is probably making them look a bit flat. Either way a real stem makes a cob awesome! A heck of a price for lucite. That Country Gent is my favorite shape/size of all the MM's. Good buy!!

Looks great, there is something typically B&B about putting a $13 stem onto a $7 pipe:lol: I like it.

Have to appreciate any time a seller can describe something as an "EXOTIC" MISSOURI MEERSCHAUM CORNCOB PIPE and be right:laugh:

They are certainly polished. It's just my Iphone camera, and the interaction between the flash, and the red background that is giving it the washed out look.

I like it.

Well like many products in the wet shaving arena, corn cob pipes perform well above their price point.

But the term "lipstick on a pig" did come to my mind.

When you consider that you're buying a reusable item that will last indefinitely, and greatly enhances the aesthetics and enjoyment of an activity, I'd say the stems are very B&B

Wow! I love the upgrade. How do they perform?

I think the performance is excellent.

I am really in love with the mini-churchwarden.

The wide end of the other one will take some getting used too, as it is considerably wider than a standard bit. I am sure it will be great once I smoke it some more, but at the moment the wideness makes it feel funny in the mouth.

This is an excellent point. Depending on how rough you are on your corn cob pipes, the replacement bit very likely will outlast the pipe itself. :biggrin1:

OK, you got me. I've been wanting to find a low cost church warden to try and I've also wanted to replace the stems on my three cobs. Two birds with one stone. My replacement stem from the eBay seller you mentioned should be here within the week.

I installed the blue mini-church warden stem to one of the cobs I have at the farm. It looks just like the top pipe in the first photo. The mouth feel is far better than the original plastic bit. The last couple of times I've made it down to the farm it's the only pipe I have smoked. I only wish the seller had curved church warden stems available.

The seller did have a curved church warden stem available a few weeks back. They also have a complete bent Churchwarden Corn Cob Pipe for sale at the moment. Might be useful to keep watch on their stock, as it frequently changes.

I saw that a thread at a different site, which indicates it is possible to introduce a bend into these stems, with gentle heat; you put a pipe cleaner in first to keep the airway open.

After try ing the 4 3/4" stem I'd really like to try that nearly 9" stem as is in that link on one of my other cobs. I think I'll just keep an eye out for those curved stems to make another appearance instead of jumping on the full pipe. I'm not out to add any more cobs to my collection, but just want to upgrade those I have.

Bought a few stems from the same ebay seller, and I'm now in love with my corn cob pipes! I ordered a bent tortoise for my bent Country Gentleman, so I'll have a matching set, as well as a straight red tortoise for the Diplomat, which will pair nicely with the Spool, which will free up the black w/red swirl for some other MM I don't have yet... you know, 'cuz I'm disordered like that!

Also thought I'd mention that once I saw that the Spool and the Diplomat had wooden plugs in the bottom, I took the sticker off the bottom of the Country Gentleman to get a look and feel of the natural cob core. The cob material is really soft, so I filled in the bottom with pipe mud, creating a smooth bottom to the bowl, which will hopefully prolong the life of the pipe quite a bit.
