travelling with brush

Greetings all. I'm going to be traveling next month and I intend to bring my DE razor, a tube of cream and a shaving brush. I've been using the brush for a while albeit with the cartridge blades. I've never traveled with a brush, however. In the past I've simply used a quality cream that didn't require a brush (like Jack Black) but now that I'm using the DE, I know I need to prep better. So....

I think I have two options. I can bring my regular brush (a silver tipped badger) or I can buy another brush. I'm leaning towards the latter because I don't want to ruin or lose my good brush. My question is what do y'all do when you travel? Also, what's the best way to transport a brush without damaging it? If I buy a brush to travel, I can use the box going, but probably not coming back. There must be cases of some sort but I haven't seen any. I have seen travel brushes, but they aren't cheap and I don't fly enough to justify spending a bunch of money.

I did see some favorable reviews about a synthetic brush by The Body Shop, and of course there are the cheapie brushes at Walgreens and such. I have no problem forking over $5.00-$15.00 for a brush that I'll only use sporadically, but at the same time, I don't want a brush that'll feel like sandpaper.

Help, please.

I bought a cheap boar brush and a nice travel tube for the purpose you describe. Several of the vendors on this site carry these. I have since bought a Simpson Case badger which will become my travel brush. I too carried some tubes of cream originally. Now I use a couple of the sample trays to carry a variety of creams without taking up much space. Side note: For travel I found a Weishi in a travel case. Decent enough razor, not much money so I will not lose any sleep if I lose it.

Thanks. I'm trying to avoid internet purchase because of UPS. They are a giant hassle in my area because they insist on delivering during the middle of the day (when I'm at work) and they typically won't leave the package. I understand not leaving the package because there are dodgy sections near where I live, but it means that I have to drive about 40 miles round trip to pick up any delivery. (Of course this limits my options bc I'm left with whatever I can find at b&m shops). I could have it shipped to my office, but in UPS's infinite wisdom, they ship to the office after closing time. (Go figure.)

Do you know if any of the venders here ship by USPS? That would be a big advantage.

Again thanks.

You can pick up the Body Shop's synthetic brush easily and cheaply. It works fine when traveling, especially if you face lather. You can put it in the cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper to protect it.

Oh great suggestion. Yeah I probably would face lather in the hotel at least. the cardboard tube idea is good. Plus there's a Body Shop right down the street.:thumbup1:

The few times a year I travel I use my VDH (first brush). No heart ache if I lose it. Next time you are at the pharmacy ask for a 60 dram pill bottle, I have never been charged for one. Go home drill a few holes in the lid, great for storing your brush on the road. I melted some VDH soap into an old empty trial size deodorant stick, and if I feel I am going to need cream I picked up a contact lens case for a buck at the dollar store. Fill the contact case up with cream and you should have enough for 3-4 shaves. I don't worry about a bowl just face lather. Oh wait too much info, you were just asking about a brush. :blushing:

The Superior Shave ships via USPS.

I travel alot. I bought a Vulfix 404 brush for $25.00 from Bullgoose. A travel tube for the brush from Westcoast Shaving for $5.00. Both shipped via US Mail. Classic Shaving (Just ask them to mail it instead of UPS) sells a tube of Taylor of Bond Street Luxury Shaving Cream in a 2.5 oz. tube which I take when I fly and have to deal with TSA. If I used the brush In the morning, I pull it out to air dry as soon as I get to my destination. Amazon had a travel case, cheap, for my razor. Never had a problem.

I use the synthetic Body Shop brush when I have to change planes every day or every other day. These brushes are not great of course, but not that bad. The good thing is that they dry very fast. When I go on vacation or don't have to change planes so often, I use one of my good brushes.

I have a inexpensive Omega #50014 turn back. I have taken this brush all over the US and it still performs well. ( it did require some break in time).
This little brush is great for face lathering.
You can get one from Shoe Box Shaving for only 10.99 + shipping.
Quite the bargain, I think.

I have two travel brushes: Wee Scot in an old medicine bottle with holes for drying and a self-made brush in the C&E travel tube.
