To shave before or after a shower

Can someone please help me ?

I have always shaved before showering and the other day I thought I'd try shaving after showering.

The results surprised me- I had very bad shaves with 2 different blades that normally are quite good (Kai and Voskhod)

Has anyone had this happen to them or is it just coincidence ?

Thanks

I wash with glycerine soap to hydrate my beard if I shave midday.

Shaving after a shower insures your beard is hydrated. Washing with glycerine soap and letting it sit on your face while you get everything ready closely approximates this as glycerine helps hair soak and hold moisture.

I shower after I shave. If I shower before shaving, my skins gets to soft and hydrated and gets nicked and cut easier. I simply use a pre-shave wash and rinse for about 30 seconds (warm water) and I'm good to go.

Thanks very much for this information.

I have purchased th XXX razor gel and use as pre shave. It works great but more importantly i think you hit the nail on the head as i also washed my face with very hot water.

On another point, do you have plans to expand your DE razor range to include more Russian blades such as Rapira Lux and Voskhod. I have purchased from you before.

Also I think it would be a good marketing idea to list the ingredients in all your products because many shavers are going down the more natural path.

Well, not nicked & cut, but I do have to be especially gentle.

One thing to make sure of is to keep your face wet constantly until you add the shaving cream, so you should lather up immediately, and not let your beard dry out while towel drying.

I seem to have better shaves when I shower first, my whiskers are nice and hydrated, if i try to shave before a shower I have a lot more tugging and pulling, the hairs aren't as easy to cut cleanly off

I always shave before the shower. It works better for me.
I suggest that you try both ways, and stay with the one that works best for you. ;-)

I also shave before I shower, or without taking a shower at all. (I shower in the evening and sometimes shave in the morning)

Thanks to everyone for their advice/comments.
This shaving community is really a bunch of top blokes who happen to love traditional shaving as well !

I feel like the shower (and I usually rub conditioner on my stubble) will make the prep easier (i.e. I won't have to do much after the shower). If I don't shower I have to hydrate my skin well and that can be tough.

I typically shave after a shower, but tonight I figured I would try the opposite. After a great workout at the gym, a weekly game of dodgeball, and shelling out $2400 for a new central air unit (which won't get installed until next Monday...which at 80 degrees F or 27 degrees C....is warm...especially to a 10 month old) I finally had the chance to shower.

Today, I went with my 39C, a 2nd use of a Med Prep, and the Proraso green line up. I also had about 5 days worth of growth.
Scrubbed up with some biore facial scrub, and then used the pre/post shave. Whipped up some lather and had a 2 pass shave (WTG/ATG). No touch ups needed.
Squeezed out the brush and smeared the left over lather on my face. I left it on there while I hopped into the shower. The water eventually rinsed it away.
Cleaned up, and turned off the hot water and sprayed my face with ice cold water. Really refreshing. Dried off and finished up with the Proraso splash.

15 mins later, it's still hot as heck, but man does my face feel great. I don't know if it's any better than shaving after I shower, but certainly no worse. Thanks to Joe (Razorock) for the tips on a facial scrub before anything else.
