Shave Mail

The search for my holy grail blade continues. I’m still trying to find the right balance on smooth/sharp (aren’t we all?) after learning that my beloved Polsilvers are no longer in production. The right now Nacet and Dorco Prime are leading the pack in terms of sharpness but both leave me with some irritation. I tried an old Astra SP I’ve had lying around (unopened, obviously) last night and while it was very smooth and very comfortable, it wasn’t very close and the amount of stubble I had after was shocking, not to mention the number of weepers. For such a comfy shave I was surprisingly bloody after.

Also acquired this week is some Mudder Focker from RR. It’s ok? I’ve seen it pretty hyped up in places but when I used it I didn’t think it was all that special which kinda feels bad because it seems like the creator is really proud of it 😑.

Anywho, I’ve got some Feathers and a feather adjustable razor on the way in the coming week so our journey continues. Stay tuned for more adventure.

See you Space Cowboy.

@Tomo , The key to great lather with soft Italian soaps like Mudder Focker is to make sure you use enough product. Recommend you scoop plenty out into a separate lathering bowl. Very hard to load enough directly from the container with a wet brush.

FWIW, Amazon still has the Wizamet super iridiums (via Razor Blades Club) available at $10/50pack. If you’re running low on Polsilvers…
I’d be interested to see what you think of the Kai’s in comparison to Polsilver.

I recently lost an old photo of the MF ingredients and they are different than the current formula. It used to be awesome, I'm not familiar with he current offering.

Load heavy, keep a bit more water in the brush, load more and load from the tub, face lather. I'm currently using a RR soft soap, month+ of 3017ing and it produces a rich, creamy, slick lather.

I mean, I like the MF. I got a good lather, I just wasn’t blown away. I do prefer to lather on-face and I find that boar brushes make things easier with the stiffer bristles picking up more product. I dunno, I read so much hype for MF I’m not sure what I expected but it was just…fine.

I think the reality is that the RR soaps aren’t as good as a lot of other artisan products out there nowadays. They definitely have their place in the market though, and I’ve heard that the MF soap seems to be better than other releases of theirs (I assume the base is a little different). If you’re not loving it after the first few shaves though, I realistically don’t think a lathering change is going to turn it into something it’s not 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, you’re probably right. It’s not bad at all so I don’t feel like it was a waste of money at least.

OK so I loaded a Kai into the Fatip Il Grosso OC and it’s VERY close to the old Polsilvers. Definitely smoother than Nacets or Dorco Primes. Right now they’ve taken top spot on the Polsilver replacement leaderboard.

The Kai blade is a sharp, smooth blade. If you want to try more blades, check out the B & B Great Blade Exchange. The link is in my signature line.
