Tips on finding birth year?

Hey all, I've been on the hunt for a couple weeks now for an F3 Gillette Super Adjustable. I've scoured eBay on almost an hourly basis, gone through Google searching every which way I can think of, but haven't had much luck. I know these things aren't very plentiful, but I'm curious if anyone has some tips to help me on my search. If there's a website or two I should look at or people on B&B that I should try dropping a line to - any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks all and happy almost Friday!

You could put a Want to Buy on the BST forum. There is a lot of stuffmon eBay but you cannot find everything all of the time!

A couple of weeks simply may not be enough time. If you haven't already, set your ebay account to notify you when new vintage offerings become available. It's only a matter of time before one shows up.

Have you also tried searching on the year and Gillette? Many sellers don't put the date code. If I am searching using the correct date for you (1960?) a number of techs, fatboys, and SS's popped up. Perhaps also removing the data altogether will help... some sellers may not know or post the data. Or post it incorrectly.

Hope the above helps... and agreed, if you can post a WTB here I suspect you will have an easier time and find a better razor.

I did a quick search of eBay and I find 2 F3 razors listed for sale. Looking at the closed sales there were several more that closed this week including fatboys and other nice ones.

You are obviously not using the "magic words" in your search if you do not come with anything

Try searching Gillette F3

Do not get in a hurry. Take your time and get what you want for the price you want to pay. There are a LOT of F3 marked razors out in the wild so take your time

EDIT

Never mind... You are looking for the later (1985) F3 date not the 1960 F3

Thanks for the tips all - I setup my ebay to alert me of about 8 different potential combinations which should in some way bring up the razor if it ever comes available. Needless to say these are probably going to be few and far between as cart's were being introduced in the mid 80's, but this should help. I'll definitely be on the BST every 2 weeks too.

If anything else comes to mind (another website or something), let me know!

Thanks for the help!

Dustin

There have not been many show up in the past 90 days but not many.

Any time you see a black adjuster plate SE that is not identified you will need to ask them for the letter and number inside the TTO doors on the base plate (this is where it will be marked on a SA)

Dang, I wish there was a way to get in touch with the buyer and make him an offer on it... That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Another cool option is to find a birth year/quarter razor for your father or grandfather's birth date. You're right about the mid-80's DE's being scarce. I imagine that most people were using carts by this time and not many DE's were still being produced by Gillette.

You can message the buyer and ask them to look for the code. Many of them just have no idea, but they will look for you. I am doing this same search but for an F2

I just found what was supposed to be a 1958 flare tip but the seller just saw it was a Z2... a 1954. Luckily I had him check.
