Thoughts on Rooney Size 3, Styles 1 or 3, in Silvertip?

I understand the knot is the same in all the Rooney regular styles, so I would think they perform the same. Thoughts regarding density and just sheer gotta-have-it-ness? Thanks, Z

Far too large for me, but YMMV. There are a couple of size 2 brushes on the B/S/T right now, I think.

I have style 1 size 2 and I find the size to be spot on. Mine is in finest so I am not sure how the density compares with the other grades.

I have a feeling that 3 might be a little big for me but I would still like to have one

I have a size 3 in style 3 which I don't use very much. PM me if you are interested. It has hardly been used.

I have a Rooney 1/2 in Super and it is a wonderful brush. Although I am tempted by the Simpson's Chubby 2, I can't imagine ever wanting to buy a larger version of my Rooney. Even if the knots are the same across the 3 different handle styles, I believe that they are set at different lofts- obviously this will change the performance of the brush.

Yeah, it's gotta be a big brush. I had a 3/2 a while back and wound up selling it because it was to large for my tastes, so the size 3 must be huuuuuge.

It seems that knot preferences these days tend toward smaller, 22 mm or so. Back in the day, I recall Ambrose extolling the virtues of large brushes, so I bought a Rooney 3/3. Boy is that thing huge! Not bad, if you don't mind risking suffocation.

Anyway, the sweet spot for me is the 24 mm knot, set at about a 48-50 mm loft. I have a 3/2 with those dimensions, and I find its size just right.

The size 3 Rooneys are large brushes, beyond practical imo.

The 1/3 is acutally not as ridiculous as people think... the large size in style 3 is thought a lot bigger. Check out my T+H 1/3 next to the 26mm Shavemac, PJ2 and C&E BBB...

I have the Tulip 3, 2 band super and it is GREAT - not as nice as my Rooney 1/2 in Finest but a great brush in all. Bang for buck the T3 wins though. Where money is no object I rate the Rooney Finest a bit higher.

You wont be disappointed with the T3 me thinks

I have tried two different Size 2 Rooneys, and they were way too huge for me.
I always recommend Size 1, myself.
YMMV as always though - some guys just aren't happy with anything less than a 30mm monster brush!
