Simpson Emperor 2 vs Emperor 3, input needed

Hi, I have both the E2 and E3.

The E2 is one of my favourite Simpsons brushes (and l have quite a few).

Both are fairly high lofted, so they don’t have particularly strong backbone, but splay nicely. I find the E3’s knot diameter is only 1mm, but this comes with an increase in loft, for me this take away too much backbone and the splay is a little large.

There’s not much between the handles, the 3 feels ever so slightly bigger in hand but it’s still quite a slim handle. In some Simpsons models the handles get quite a bit fatter e.g. PJ2 vsPJ3.

Where they feel different is on the face, the E3 does feel quite a bit bigger on the chops and has more flop than the E2. The E2 has a bit of flop but it feels better balanced to me.

I reach for the E2 a lot, it was used today hence it’s bloomed out a bit more.

Interesting, based on the difference between Chubby 2 and E2, it seems to me like the total length of the Emperor 2 would be approximately equal to the one of Chubby 3. I, for some reason, did not expect that.

I owned both. Kept (and still have) the 2. Great brush for soaps.

Seeing both side by side the 2 just looks more balanced and proportional. Don’t get me wrong, I like a somewhat floppy brush but I imagine the 2 coupled with the super hair should be soft enough with no scritch and the 3 would be a little overkill. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

With that in mind I don’t think the price difference for the 3 is worth it. It’s a huge jump and I still don’t quite get it.

No I haven’t. And I also wondered about that actually. The 3 should be more comfortable but the knot itself would be a no no for me.

The chubby has too much backbone (I’ve only tried the best) and too much density.

Less dense brushes work a little better in my opinion, taking less time and product to load and releasing the lather easily.

I can only imagine how massive a 3 should be as the 1 already feels big.

And 24h later….. it’s here!

A palm lather cleaning with some dish soap and warm water and the difference in softness compared to the best hair is crystal clear.

It lost some hairs but I guess that’s normal and it should settle soon.

Tomorrow I’ll take it for a spin and update you back.

Oh, and the size. Perfect. I don’t see how a few mm for 60 euros more would make a noticeable improvement. I guess the 2 is indeed the wise choice.

One more thing gentlemen, I notice I slight glue bump close to the base, my finger stops a few mm before the actual base.

Anything abnormal with that? I don’t have my other Simpsons with me now to compare.

It was lovely during the palm lather though. Zero complaints.

Totally agree! Last fall I acquired a CH1. I thought that would cure my BAD. Now I'm dreaming about the Duke and Emperor!
