What's new

This is what happens when you go for a drive on a Sunday afternoon.....

my latest acquisitions...

GEM Micromatic Brass $11

GEM Micromatic Chrome $9

Gillete Fat Handled Tech $2 (For $2 why the heck not? It can always be replated...):001_tongu

Now, the question is ,after cleaning? (I got an Ultrasonic cleaner)
What blades do you recommend for SE? Where to get them?

It's not that there is a lot of choices for SE shavers.

I got the GEMs mainly because I got tired of people raving about them here.
So I wanted to know what the fuss was all about.

Any and all input is appreciated
Thanks in advance.

There are really only 3 main sources for blades for the Gem Razors:

-Gem stainless steel blades available in the shaving section @ WalGreens.

-Treet carbon blades available at RiteAid.

-The Gem PTFE coated stainless steel blades sold for the medical field, and available in bulk through such places as Ted Pella, and EMS (Electron Microscopy Services).

Note, that all of these blades are made by Personna/ American Safety Razor who owns the Gem/ Treet names.

I have not tried the Treet carbons, but consider the blades from Ted Pella, and the Gems at Walgreens to be basically the same. :tongue_sm

You got three great razors there. They should clean up nicely. As for the blades, Walgreens has Gem SE blades. CVS also has their store branded SE blades that shave nicely, but you have to dry them between uses because they will rust. You will find them in the shave section of both stores.

Good luck, and be sure to let us know how they do for you.

To be more specific about razor identification, your Brass Micromatic is a Gem Micromatic ClogProf. The silver Micromatic is an Open Comb Micromatic, the most aggressive of all Gems.

There is also the bullet tip Micromatic with a standard closed safety bar.

The basic tenets of wet shaving apply to Gems as well, with watching your angle being most important. The correct angle is a few degrees above flat against the face. :tongue_sm

Thanks michiganlover!

I have absolutetly no knowledge of SE Razors, where I could find more information about the GEMS?

I'll post pictures after the clean up.

Congratulations on three wonderful shaver's .
I have an early fat handle tec / which is what you have ,because of the triangular openings as opposed to rectangle ones . My is a metallic color . gentle not the closest shave but so easy to use It's like a cartridge but better. everyone should have one ( and yours is Gold ) . In the other two I have the mirror opposite of what you have . The more I use them, the better I like them . Very communicative ( you can hear and feel just what it is doing ) but there is a leaning curve .

The Clog pruf will shine up very nicely with some metal polish. That is my favorite of the Micromatic line. Not sure, but it looks like there might be an old blade in it.

Nice find. Why cant I ever find something with the box? Some folk have all the luck. Nice, you lucky fellow.
