Thinking about straight razor shaving...

I am thinking about trying to dive into straight razor shaving. I have been using my Merkur for awhile now but am thinking about giving straights a shot. I have been doing alot of research but I still need to know some info.

What are the bare bones necessities when it comes to equipment and what should a beginners model of equipment run me?

I know about the stretching but I am a little nervous about how much to stretch and where to. I tried gentle stretching once and my face ended up looking like I was 15 again.

I have heard this from a couple of straight shavers that the lather needs to be different. Less foamy, more slick. Is there any truth to that?

Thanks in advance for the stupid questions you are about to answer. I am sure there are plenty more questions headed your way.

I see in your other post that you have pulled the trigger on your equipment, which looks quite nice by the way.
Good luck, keep at it and don't give up.
It is not easy at first, but it is positively worth it.

Congrats on joining the straight shaving world.

I am only a few weeks in, but I would say that my lather is the same as the lather I use for DE shaving.
