OK...so i've been using the DE's I found while going through my father's things. A Fat Boy, a '54 TV Special (with the original blades) & a Black Beauty.
I seemed to have done ok with the TV Special & the BB using the original Gillette's. I ordered some items from a member here & he kindly gave me a 5-pack of Astra SP. I loaded one into the Fat Boy since I hadn't tried it yet, turned the dial to "4" & away I went. It seemed to do OK, but I don't know if I like the feel of it or not. Does that make sense? I do know the blades are sharp! I have a small mole on my chin & it sheared part of it off. I got paranoid when I went to do my upper lip as I have a small mole/freckle there as well. Luckily, I only needed the styptic pencil on one place.
Are the newer DE razors any better than the vintage? I'm not sure I like the TTO & i'm not sure about the adjustment dial or not. I have fair skin & I shave about every other day. The only reason I say that is that i've seen some DE razors that appeared to have a "comb" or "teeth" on them. I don't know if that's for whisker trimming or what.
