Thiers Issard 11/16

My limited experience with TI (I only have experience with two of their razors) is that you really can't go wrong with them. My favorite razor by far is my TI 6/8 half hollow ground.

I have several TI's including the TI Le Dandy which is probably the same as the one shown - all great razors. Don't expect it to come shave ready.

Very nice. I love razors with the thumb cutout like this one has....never shaved with a TI, but they look fantastic!

Should be a fine entry level razor. Nice blade with jimping top and bottom, shoulder less, round point and heel. Lots to like. As to shave readiness, the TIs I have have ran to both extremes. Good luck with your choice.

Hey guys,

I'm considering buying a straight razor sometime in the near future, and the razor I'm considering buying is the Thiers Issard 11/16. It's their entry-level razor and here is the link in case you all aren't familiar with it.

Do any of you have this razor, and if so, what do you think about it?

I have a fancy version, but the same blade. The grind is called 'x-thick' which is somewhat thicker than my 1/4 hollow TI, but nothing like a wedge.
I hated the factory edge - sharp but very very harsh. I found it very difficult to hone due to the wide bevel and hard steel.
When I shave with it, I find myself checking the sink to see if there are whiskers - there always are, but I can't feel them being removed.
Although I really like this razor, it may not be the easiest to learn to shave with.

I want this razor over a Dovo Best Quality because I like the way it looks, I like the thumb notch over a straight tang, and I like that it is directly in between the 5/8 and 6/8. I've also heard TIs are sharper, and hold their edge longer. It also comes with a case.

Looks like you missed your chance for now unless you already ordered. Out of stock at the link you posted.

I have one of the same razors. Took me a while to get used to it because I have big hands and the tail is on the small side so there as a little curve getting comfortable holding it but now, I love it! I'd consider getting another. I have the satin finish, and I think the mirror finish would be nice to have too. Go for it, you'll be very happy. Also, I think it's considered entry level because it's got a simple finish and plastic scales - not because it's any less of a razor than the ones with ram's horn scales!

I've got one of these and it shaves very well. The thumb cutout is comfortable and I like the slightly stiffer blade.

Got it from Thiers-issard.co.uk and there they are all said to come shave ready. If there's a problem, Steve who runs it will usually sort it.

I know that site says they come shave ready, but do they all come from the TI factory shave ready? I would think they do because I never saw anything on that site about them honing them before they are shipped like Lynn Abrams does at Straight Razor Designs.

As far as I can presume, they come honed from the factory (as the boxes are always sealed) and I've bought a few from him over the years, which were always sharp and properly shave-ready. It might be he has a deal with the factory that they prep his, no idea. But I will say that he's generally fairly trust worthy. Also, if it says shave-ready, it has to be as otherwise it'd be false advertising.

I'm sure if you had a problem he'd probably get it rehoned if there was an issue.

He does hone all the Dovos he sells, that's what makes me wonder of TI hone theirs for him (if they do for others I don't know)

Well I was planning on buying it from Royal Shave. I guess I'll ask them about it. surely they would know if the razors come shave ready.
