The Swede that wouldn't quit

Okay,

so, my beard is notoriously rough on blades.

all of the 7 o'clocks, we're looking at 3-5 shaves depending on the individual blade.

I can normally get about 7 shaves out of a swede before I notice the performance going downhill.

I think I just used the same one for about 15-20 shaves, easily. It just would not stop working well.

I know. Cool story, bro.

But, I'm blown away.:thumbup1::thumbup1:

For those who love them, and who scrambled madly to buy up all that could be found, Swedes have been well worth the obscene prices that they commanded.
Witchcraft practiced by Alchemists produced these blades.

You just need the rest of your Swedes to last as long.
I have had the occasional Red IP last for a long time, but not anything like 15 shaves. Seeing as they are $10.00 for 100 blades I'm not upset.

Right after the Alchemists produced Personna 74's. But how can you make money when a blade lasts 15-20 shaves?

I thought I'd add on to an old thread about Swedes rather than start a new one.

I've just had my fifth shave with my first Swede today. I loaded into a Muhle R89 and after three passes and a touch up, I ended up with BBS. That's a fair effort seeings as I do a triple pass each shave so I usually wear blades out in three shaves, perhaps four at best and the fourth is never close to BBS. I'm really interested to see how many more shaves I can get out of it before it starts to drag. I was lucky to pick up quite a few packets in a trade recently for a razor so I'm going to be in Swede heaven for a long time I think.

Shave #6 today with the Swede. I put it in my Futur, dialled it up to 4, did a triple pass and ended up with a DFS. I missed a bit on the side of my Adams Apple otherwise it would have been BBS. I got a Weishi razor last week as part of a trade so I might try it in that tomorrow and see how it goes.

Are they even better? Wow. Do you want to trade for anymore?

I'm in totally uncharted territory for me. Usually I use a blade for 3 shaves and throw it because it dies mainly in shave 4.
I had shave #7 this morning with the Swede. I did use the Weishi and it probably wasn't a good choice. I ended up with an average shave after 3 passes. The blade didn't feel like it was tugging so I'll put it down to the Weishi. I'll try the blade again tomorrow morning and see how it goes in either a 1930's open comb Aristocrat or a New Standard.

It was the Weishi razor and not the blade that wass the problem yesterday. I loaded it into a New Standard this morning, did three passes and ended up with a DFS. So that's now shave #8. It did feel a little less sharp this morning (no tugging though) but still produced impressive results. It'll get another run tomorrow in a 1930's open comb Aristocrat and see how it goes.

I think you will like the shave with your Aristocrat. As far as the platinums are concerned, YMMV but for me I can often get 10 shaves out of them.

Shave #9 this morning with the Swede. I had to scrape some cream suds off it that I hadn't rinsed properly yesterday. I was going to put it in the 1930's Aristiocrat but I had a Puma DE arrive in the post yesterday so I thought I'd give it a run in that. The Puma DE is quite an aggressive razor and after three passes I ended up with a DFS. You can definitely feel that the blade is not as sharp as it was but it still refuses to tug. Tomorrow it will get it's last use and I'll definitely put it in a 1930's Aristocrat to see how it goes.

It's really amazing what a difference a different razor makes. I put the Swede into the 1930's open comb Aristocrat this morning for what I thought would be it's swan song but after a triple pass and a couple of touch ups around the Adams Apple, I ended up with a BBS shave on shave #10. I'm not sure I can bring myself to throw it out yet. It felt much better this morning in the Aristocrat than it did yesterday in the Puma DE.
I think I'll use it again tomorrow and try it in the President and see how it goes.

So, what makes a blade last longer than others? I assume it's the quality of steel that they use. Whilst I think the Swede wasn't as sharp as a Feather when new, a Feather would have only lasted 4, perhaps 5 shaves at best.
