The second shave with SE

The first shave with my new GEM Junior (1912 type) was quite harsh. This time there were no weepers and irritation. Four days since the previous shave might help as well as a duller blade. If you hold the razor lightly, it will find the right angle itself. Got BBS in 2.5 passes. I always get BBS no matter what razor is used (even disposable). I know most of you love that sound the SE blade makes, but I am not sure I like that feeling as if I shave with a knife! :biggrin1: I will keep experimenting. Sometimes stuff just grows on you.

Cool man - If you start to think it is not so aggressive start looking for an everready streamline after playing with the 1912, you won't regret it.

I heard of the Streamline but need a break - too many razors and a lifetime supply of blades, etc. already! Is the Steamline milder than a 1912?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think 1912 closed comb razors act like open comb ones because the safety bar is far away from your skin.

Yes, I have always thought of the 1912 as an open comb in functionality. There is no "bar" that comes into play when shaving, it's just tucked under there as an artifact of the way it's constructed. I truly great design!

The Streamline is more aggressive than the 1912. I don't think it balances as well. Beautiful razor tho, no question about that!

Aggressiveness varies depending on what 1912 you happen to own. There seems to have been some variance in the stampings and some of mine are more aggressive than others. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to it, it might just be variability in the manufacture or slightly different dies.

Mine is Junior and yes, the first shave was pretty harsh. The second one was fine, BBS with no weepers. I am waiting for a 2013 Muhle R41. There will be another aggressive razor to compare to. :)
