The Scuttlebutt: Dirty Bird 1.5 scuttle

Part 5 of 5 in evaluating scuttles. They all work well, and the final decision should be a matter of personal taste. I heated 3 cups of water in my microwave oven for 4 minutes for a temperature of 165 degrees F. The water is then poured into the scuttle to test heat retention.

Note: in communicating with members, this one seems to have received the most favorable comments. Some have, and some haven't, had experience with the other scuttles.

How big of an overall footprint is this one? I'm wondering about size vs counterspace. Space is at a premium right now.

I can hardly wait to get mine, ordered last week got e-mail saying it would be sent out in 3-4 weeks and I bought the matching bowl this morning on B/S/T.
Looks like the DB is the better deal and it looks better.

The width of the handle + bowl + spout, at its widest point, is about 9". The DB 1.5 is the widest but I don't think you would have a problem with any of them.

If I were going to give anybody advice, it would be "go with your gut" because they all work. We have the technology to get an electrical device that would hold a constant temperature forever, probably for less than all but perhaps the Becker scuttle and maybe cheaper than that. But we want to learn how to give ourselves a luxurious shave more reminiscent of the way our ancestors did.

Thanks for the outstanding job on researching, analyzing and reporting on the various scuttles out there. I had been checking them out, but up until your efforts, I had found no objective comparisons. The observations made by those with one scuttle are valid, but nothing beats a good side-by-side-by-side comparison.

Keep up the good work!

Got the 1X a couple of months ago and love it.

My daughter and SWMBO, knowing how much I love it, got me a gift cert. from Julie (DB) for fathers day. What a great surprise.
Julie sent me an e-mail over the weekend saying my brush scuttle and soap bowl were on their way. YES!
