The Perfect Blade?

In a quest to have the ultimate DE wet shaving experience, I have given up on chasing the BBS shave. Instead, I'm on the quest to find the blade that harmoniously pairs with me. Along the journey I have found a few blades that my face could become great friends with (Shark SC and Crystals), some that could be considered acquaintances (Gillette 7AM Green and Yellows), and still a few that can only be described as mortal enemies (Equaline Personas and Gillette Swedes). I'd like to think the perfect blade for me is out there somewhere. When I find it, together we will set out on the path of enlightenment known as BBS.

While I have not found mine, what blade is the perfect blade for you?

I like the way you phrased what you're searching for. What's perfect for you.

For me, my Merkur 23c, Gillette 7 o'clock Yellows, mama bear soap and some witch hazel after shave has just about all the AD's quelled. I get my best shave with that setup with the least irritation.

The quest for the perfect blade ended for me with the use of Red Personnas. I even went as far as trading every single blade i had against Red Personnas. Over 150 blades traded later, i am finally happy to have my "one" razor (Merkur Futur at setting 1.5) and my "one" blade (the Personna).

Jay, you will find that perfect blade! It took me close to 3 years to find it. The biggest mistake i made was to use too many different blades in too many different razors and never getting comfortable with just one combo before switching again. My RAD was also my downfall and as much as i like collecting razors, it made finding "my" equipment just so much harder. My technique improved but at the same time i switched razors too often and needed to use a different technique with each, so i never got comfortable.

I believe I have found my pefect razor/blade combo. A cheap as chips Israeli Personna loaded in a Muhle R89. I have a Gillette 1953 Superspeed and I just can't find the right blade for it.

I thought my blade was a personna red, then I went to Iridiums and now all I use is Feathers, they are the sharpest and smoothest I have found and leave next to zero razor burn.
I do change blades after 3 shaves but I am ok with that.

That question easily turns into RBAD, at least that has happened to me.

Sofar, after using around 60-70 different blades, I came up with 3 really nice ones which I prefer vastly over #4 and the rest;

-Lord Super Stainless
-Souplex
-Schick Platinum Plus (NOS)

It took me a little while since non of the blades are from the very popular/available kind.

From what I have tried so far, Shark SC, Gillette super thins and...ASR Personnas are my favorites. The ASR Personnas I tried again (I started with them) on a whim and really liked them, now that I have the technique down. A close follower is the ASCO orange blades.

Good luck on finding your blade.

I have 3 perfect blades: Treet Platinum, Astra Superior Stainless & Blue Birds. I could quite happily use either of these exclusively. I get BBS with 3 passes with each blade. If you blindfold tested me, I couldn't tell any difference with any of these fantastic blades.

I don't believe in a "perfect blade" for me, but I do find the following to be the best, yet:
Gillette Bleue Extra NOS
Souplex
Iridium Super
Schick Plus Platinum

Feathers give a great shave (especially on day-2), but they don't last very long and they're a bit pricey. I've finally settled into my Merkur 34c with a good ol' Isreali Personna. I used that combo this morning after 3-days without shaving...It felt like there was no blade in the razor! To me, the Isreali Personnas provide a great shave at a great price. I've decided to replace the blade after 2 shaves, which is still an amazing value.
