What's new

The new colorful Simpsons - do you dig them ?

Hey guys and gals :biggrin1:

How it's all going, Ralph 'The Dude' here,

I wonder how you all like the way the traditional Simpson brush maker is going with the rerlease of the new coloful limited edition brushes.
Do you like them ?
Do you buy them ?
What's your opinion - should they stick with the classic ivory handles or keep the tradition alive while at the same time release limited edition brushes in colorful designs ?

I say yes to the new strategy. I like the classic ivory handles, but once you get past 5-6 Simpsons (unless you are called Dr. Peter and are from Holland :001_tt2: ) you tend to want something new and refreshing. At least that's my take on it.
What is your take on it - let me hear your honest opinions, guys !!

Currently I own 6 classic ivory Simpson and 6 limited edition Simpsons - so half and half for me :thumbup1:

This came up awhile ago. A few grumbled about the new colors, but I say "yay!" for variety. And I for one think the hippie moonjava is a cool color. I also like their cobalt blue and their new deep brown color. Who says that all brushes have to be restricted to white, ivory, black, tortoise, and horn?

Do I buy them? Not at the prices they go for.

I personally prefer the traditional color. To me, the last one looks like a Clown threw up.

I really like the butterscotch ones, but until I saw a recent pic of a particular 2-band Chubby in reddish "coral," I wasn't a fan of the other colors. I've since had a change of heart, but butterscotch is still my favorite variant of their LE brushes. I have two Simpsons in the traditional "ivory" so far.

Ebony "Rover" looks awesome.

I just looked and there are some new ones listed. See if Moonjava tickles your fancy.

About time, fake ivory and fake butterscotch are so boring to me. I prefer options, I wish they would add more colors and even materials. One or two white or black handles are enough for me. Thank god for Rudy Vey and whipped dog I can add some different looking brushes. Maybe I'll consider a second Simpson now.

While clown puke is not appealing to me it is a big change. I hope someday I can find a true vintage butterscotch. To each their own I do like wood and ceramic handles to plastic. It's good we all like different styles or prices would go even higher.

I prefer that classic color. I could see myself going with their imitation ivory, and a long shot with the butterscotch/yellow. Other than that, I would pass on the funky stuff.

I don't have a simpsons, but i love the classic ivory, something really appealing of it, but if there is a demand for new ones, while maintaining the demand for the original, i don't see why it would be a problem :)

I like the butterscotch, but the super colourful handles aren't my cup of tea. But to each his own, people clearly like them otherwise Simpson wouldn't be making them.

Great performing brushes with plenty off choice to meet the various tastes. I was not that big on some of the colours but gave a butterscotch Tulip 3 a go. Photos on the net are great but in person the brush is simply outstanding. You can't properly capture the richness of the colour. Followed up with equally pleasing M7 and Rover. Then an M7 in ivory fleck, "The Hive" in ivory, Chubby 2 Coral, M7 Briar, and finally a Chubby 3 Disco Haze is in the mail. You get the picture. Tons of character, outstanding performance, and to some outrageous prices. The approach Mark is taking works. It sells brushes and brings attention to wet shaving. Result we all are winners, so I am a big fan. On the other hand, that M7 in Moonjava, I can't handle personally. We all have boundaries.

I really can't stand the faux ivory, but I do like butterscotch, particularly real, aged Catalin or Bakelite butterscotch. I've got a lot of brushes with vintage handles with two-tone color schemes, and I like them a lot, but the multi-colored rainbow swirls are just a bit too much.

If they weren't made out of unicorn-grade hair, I'd probably buy a couple.

There are some "colorful" Duke 3s in Best.

For me, I think there's something incredibly "classy" about a full lineup of white-handled brushes with the Simpson sticker. I purchased my Polo 10 in Butterscotch just to try something different, but I'm pretty much obsessed with the Jade materials. Starting with my PJ3 - I will buy any manchurian jade-handled brush that Mark puts online - as long as the handle is larger than the Duke 3. I love the amber as well but again - there's something classy about a consistent lineup.
