The flu

Anybody got some great folk medicine/old wives tales on how to cure the flu FAST?

I got a fever, the sweats, a headache, and I felt so poorly I didn't even shave today. (GASP)

EEK! That IS bad! Probably not a lot you can do other than let it run its course and try to stay well hydrated and take whatever helps you with the symptoms.

Hope you feel better soon.

I came down with swine flu earlier this year.

The bad news: all the symptoms you described - headache, fever, sweats, and I have never felt so utterly fatigued. I literally was so sapped I could barely raise my arm to change the TV channel.

The good news: The flu pretty much cleared up within 72 hours.

Have plenty of fluids handy. And just rest, rest, rest. Do not leave the house any more than you have to.

basically the same thing as everyone else said....heaps of rest, LOTS of water to flush it out....

as an aside, i take about a dessert spoon of olive leaf extract every morning and night to boost my immunity and general wellbeing as i have very bad immune system. based on my symptoms about 2 months ago, i possibly had swine flu, however i put my regiment of olive leaf down to the reason why i still didnt feel so good at the time, but i was able to go about normal daily activities etc without too much problem (note to self : never again use a straight when you are susceptable to uncontrolled fits of coughing without warning). it did take me a month to get rid of the cough though, and it still niggles a bit in the cold weather here in australia.

i tend to find that once you get something, natural stuff doesnt seem to have much effect in getting rid of it fast, but a daily routine of taking natural stuff seems to help avoid it in the first place, or at least minimise its impact.

As advised.

1-Rest
2-Plenty of fluids
3-Chicken soup seems to do miracles but it was never proven that it actually help

To help
-In a cup, half a teaspoon of grated ginger (fresh), 2 sprig of fresh thyme, juice of half a lemon, 1 teaspoon of honey. Top with warm water. It should help.

-Boil some thyme and breathe the vapors.

-1 teaspoon of salt and warm water (as warm as you can take it). Gargle and spit out. Repeat as often as necessary. This will help your throat.

That's pretty much all I do and it usually works. Good luck!

My grandma would prepare a hot toddy and mix in a package of Theraflu. I don't know if it did any good medically, but I sure slept good after drinking it.

Before I recommend my mainstay home remedy, I need to know if you are old enough to legally consume it :001_rolle

Otherwise, I'd say as much Vitamin C as you can cram into yourself. Natural sources (like OJ) are preferred, but if you get a supplement make sure that it's more than just Ascorbic Acid which is only 1 part of the Vit-C complex.

If you are having nasal or even throat/lung issues, I have found that steeping Lavender fronds in boiling water helps a lot. I pour them into a large bowl, get a towel that fits over my head and the bowl, boil water in a kettle then pour it over the lavender, then put the towel over my head and the bowl and just breath in the steam.
Not recommended to those sensitive to lavender of course
