The Dirty Moose

Hey Guys,

My older brother (who I introduced to traditional wetshaving ) was recently in town and he came bearing gifts. Apparently he and the family were vacationing up in Maine and stumbled across a soap from a small company called "The Dirty Moose."

I have yet to use the soap, but can give you the following info:

* Listed ingredients are goat's milk and glycerin.

* Label states that it can be used as a body soap, shaving soap, and/or shampoo bar.

* Color is white, soap is 100% fragrance free.

I'll try to get a picture posted, but in the meantime, is anyone else familiar with this soap company and its products?

Well, I've finally had the time to put the Moose through its paces and document the ordeal. Here are my conclusions:

Love the performance, wish it were scented.

Here is the set-up du jour:

My trusty black bowl, Merkur Classic, C&E Best Badger Brush, and of course, last but not least, the Dirty Moose.

Everybody into the pool!

Loading 'er up. I will comment that the soap loaded easily and generously after literally just dunking the soap for less than 5 seconds, which definitely scored it some points with me.

Lather!

After mowing down 4 days worth of beard, I have discovered that this is one fine soap! It loaded and lathered up effortlessly and the performance was top notch. Slick, moist, and protective, yet still close cutting. Again, if I had to find fault with this product, it would be that it is completely unscented.

If you ever find yourself in a position to try this soap out, it comes highly recommended by me.

* A special thanks to my older brother Mike for giving me this soap as a gift.

Hmmm,
I use a goat's milk/glycerin soap called Canus that originally came from Montreal and is also made in Vermont for the US market. I've never tried it for shaving but I think I will. It is very moisturizing and rich and creates a thick, long lasting lather (a property of goats milk soaps). I suspect that it will work as well as yours did.

Cory, that is some fantastic looking lather and what an interesting shape the soap is in! I am thoroughly intrigued!

That lather looks nice.

Maybe you could add one drop of peppermint oil to the bowl as you're loading the brush? Then you would have the same performance with a nice refreshing scent?

Yes, it really works well as a shave soap. I was a bit skeptical at first as the label indicates bath soap and shampoo as other possible uses, but it really worked great in a shaving application.

That's a great idea. Maybe I can pick up some inexpensive FO or EO and play around a bit.

Nice lather and nice counter tops, btw. 'tho I still don't believe those are *your* pictures.

That soap should be very moisturizing with those ingredients. Nice find. I'll have to check out the website.

Have you tried it as a shampoo bar yet?

edit: the price is certainly nice and for an extra $2 you can get it as "goat on a rope." I kid you not.
