What's new

the Colognes forum

I just wanted to say that after sampling some Floris No. 89 the other day, I've realized that the colognes forum might be the under-appreciated gem of B&B. I generally hate shopping for fragrances and don't really like too many things I smell in the stores. I'd never even heard of Floris, Creed, Penhaligon's, and the like. Now I have a list of scents I want to try, scents that are not going to be peddled to and worn by every guy who has happened upon a fragrance counter at a department store (at least not one in the U.S.) Nice job, guys!

We have gents with refined tastes on this forum. You can learn about little heard of scents that are not mainstream.

Agree 100%, this forum exposes some new things and new options. IMO colognes are one of the easiest things to get an AD for - so be warned Obsessed! Once you have a few nice razor-brush set ups, you can move on, not with colognes though.

The world of scents is wide open, something I was totally unaware of prior to B&B. Growing up in redneck heaven, among hillbillies and baldknobbers, the idea that perfumes are for women (or girly-men) was firmly entrenched. I was well into my 30's before I even tried using a cologne. If I recall correctly, I simply noticed something I liked (Jovan Musk), so I bought a bottle and wore it daily. I progressed to White Musk, which became my staple for years.
Starting in on wet-shaving and following forums exposed me to myriad scents, perfumers, and perfume houses. I ordered a couple of Penhaligon's scents (blind) along with my first supply order and never looked back. This forum, and others like it, has been my springboard into the scent world. Without the internet, I'd still be wearing Jovan.

I know what you mean - my shaving ADs are limited to a large degree by my sensitive skin, but not so the cologne AD (which is actually limited by my sensitive wallet ). Just now I found myself thinking, "hmm, I haven't thought about Czech & Speake yet." Oh, boy!
