The Calligraphy Thread

I eyeball really... at best I use lined paper... but thinking maybe I should start... either that or see how good my skills can get with the eyeballing and develop the skill without need of a guide I haven't decided

Maybe go from lined to dot-grid to blank, I find when I write on blank paper I have amazing shrinking handwriting.

Holy... you don't realize how fast the nib moves these days till you go looking for a thread and find it 5 pages back

Playing around with the dip pens again... starting to find control with it but still a long ways to go

rockviper

I got moves like Jagger
Looks nice, Syngent!
You can really see the thick line the dip pens lay down. Looks like they'll eat ink like a Chubby-3 eats soaps!

Lol some letters themselves can take two dips. .. I need to get some of those Mitchell nibs that have the reservoirs

That looks cool with the reverse! I am practicing tonight! I wonder if they make a Gothic Calligraphy book, they must...

All books have it Dave most of its built on three strokes you can practice I'd take a picture for you but for the life of me I can't find my nib holder

But I just placed a huge order on the cheap for some nibs, holder, inks, and a few calligraphy markers as my last pen is in an envelope to go out to Jonathan

here Dave this is out of my book, though for Gothic 45 degrees is better then the 30 they are showing here, but if you practice the circles and the rise and peaks it will help

although ive always gone up down up rather then the two down strokes they are showing, maybe ill have to try it their way$2013-02-04 18.16.12.jpg.

All the letter in gothic are broken down into 3-5 or so strokes of just whats above, once you get the hang of those 4 strokes (angled up, straight down, angled down, curved) each letter will begin to make sense to you, if your trying to write each letter in one big stroke i dont think they will turn out quite right for you

ya'ay i found my Nib Holder, though that wont make my coffee table happy,

did this with Noodlers 54 Massachuey

If you have some big ole italics, you should give this stuff a shot Celestino, if not you SHOULD be using your pens more, and finally write me off that letter lol, but I know how much time you spend with your family so its okay for now at least, that your pens had to have some time off

Hey Syn

You linked me to this thread from Mendal's thread

That is absolutely gorgeous handwriting and that is exactly what I want to be able to do

Would you recommend buying calligraphy books or do you think there are enough free resources online for me to learn on my own?

My main goal is to create a really unique signature of my name. If you get time, would you please show me how you would write "Daniel" in that type of writing?

I want to learn how to do a very distinctive D for my first name and K for my last name in my signature. Something that just leaves a beautiful and lasting impression.

Thank you again for linking me to your thread. Your calligraphy is beautiful

You mean the flex style writing like the "badger and blade" or the block style like in my last picture?
If its the block style your 1.9 nib will do it... if its the flexy bit you meed a special nib to do it

Also my last photo has two pens one for the block letters and one for all the flurishes

I have a few pens that have different nibs I can play with it a not tonight

If its the block stuff I have a thread to teach you how to do that, which is the one I thought I linked for you but I did learn this stuff from a boom which will show you how to do it and what you need to pull it off
