The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner - suitable as aftershave?

I just got some of this product to try. I have somewhat oily skin and occasionally break out - the company claims this is a good product to use on blemished skin.

So, I looked at the ingredients list. Here it is:

Water, Alcohol Denat., Corn Starch Modified, Caprylyl Glycol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glycerin, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Allantoin, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil, Limonene, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, t-Butyl Alcohol, Citral, Leptospermum Petersonii (Lemon Tea Tree) Oil, Denatonium Benzoate, Tocopherol, Caramel, Yellow 5, Blue 1. (from their website)

So...tea tree oil, alcohol, glycerin, witch hazel, a little citrus going on...this sounds to me like it might make a decent aftershave. Has anyone tried it? It doesn't smell half bad, though it's no cologne or anything, not something you'd throw on to smell nice. Mostly citrus and medicinal herbal smell...not bad, just not great. Still, the ingredients sound like it would be nice for an aftershave if you're wanting something that wouldn't have a long lasting aroma, something which would be effective but would either ultimately leave you unscented or else just not compete with the cologne of your choice.

What do you think? Have any of you tried using the stuff for this purpose?

I got a bottle because I'd read good things about their shave cream and mostly more or less good things about their synthetic brush so I wanted to try those items (good sale going on right now - travel size shave cream is less expensive per ounce than the tub) so I thought I'd try this too....just arrived today, and I looked at the ingredients and thought this might be a good multipurpose item!

I've used a toner as an aftershave for the last three years, C.O. Bigelow's Dr. Galen's Skin Tonic, with very good results. As far as I can tell, toners basically cleanse and reduce irritation, which is all aftershaves really do. The additional ingredients (castor oil, tea tree oil, witch hazel) in the Body Shop toner might even make it better than your average drugstore aftershave.

Actually, whether it makes a good aftershave or not, it sounds like good stuff and might be just the job for my slightly blotchy and spotty skin at the moment - at £5 for 250ml in the UK, I think it has to be tried. So, thanks for the heads-up, nesta
