The biggest problem with MWF...

...is it is so good that when I use my other soaps I feel a bit underwhelmed. I mean I certainly get very good shaves with my other soaps (Tabac, Speick, Cade, Trumpers) but MWF just has that ideal combo of performance, quality and scent that give me consistently fantastic shaves. As a result I reach for it most mornings and my other soaps don't get much of a look in. Anyone else have a soap that just works so well for you that as much as you try and rotate between soaps you just end up using one day after day?

Ummm...yeah. Cella. I do use MWF regularly and like it, but there's something magical about the red tub stuff. Don't entirely know what, but it's easy to use, lathers like a dream, doesn't dry out too quickly, is forgiving of minor miscalculations about water content, provides lots of lubrication (tad less than MWF I think) and cushioning, and cleans up easily.

I totally understand what you see in MWF and it's on my bathroom counter, yet keep coming back to Cella whenever I'm in a hurry or just have too many other variables (razors and blade) in the air.

Yup, me too. I got some new creams in the mail yesterday, and it was hard to give them a fair shake from the start. I was turned off immediately cause there was no almond cherry flavor.

I started using MWF this week after a long gap. The weather has got a lot colder in the past few days so I felt it was a good time to protect my skin with a dose of lanolin. I've also been pushed for time most mornings so switched to face lathering. I found it takes about ten seconds to load the brush with enough soap for my usual 3.5 passes and I've been able to get the job done in just over ten minutes, missing out applying balm or aftershave as I figured the soap itself would be sufficient for moisturising purposes (it was). I like the buttery/milky scent although it's not particularly long lasting. I can get refills for about £6 each so assuming they're good for 4-6 months of daily use, that's seems incredibly good value.

I tend to switch soaps at the weekend when I've got time to look through my collection. What I choose then generally gets used for the following week, unless I found it took a while to lather or didn't lather especially well (I've experienced this with TOBS sandalwood). After this week's experience, however, I know if I'm ever in need of a quick, easy shave to reach for the MWF.

Never got the hang of MWF. Tried many times to like it, but always had the same disappointing results.

For me, Tabac is still #1. Cella is a close 2nd however.

I have a couple of soaps I like this much so its not a big deal to switch between several soaps I could not choose one single favorite between. Variety is the spice of life.

+1. With MWF, I have never gotten lather, only suds. I do love it as a superlather though.

Tabac for me is king......

The ones among those you mentioned I have tried in soap form are MWF, Tabac, and Trumpers and would be happy with any of them. It might surprise some, but I was least impressed with the Trumpers scent. The scent is very important to me.

One thing I did tonight that I have been meaning to do for a while is mill the MWF puck into the ceramic jar... I have great success with lathering milled soaps as it seems to soften up the soap a bit and create more traction for the brush to dig into. Before, I had the puck slip around me quite a bit.

I just lathered up a test run for the milled puck and it seemed to lather a bit easier, since I could load more on the brush easily.

Shame you can't MWF magically appear with any scent you want! EF, BB, Floris JF, Trumpers GFT, on and on... What a world that would be.

I like all my soaps, including MWF :thumbup1:. What I sometime like to do (albeit rare) is mix Glycerin and tallow-based soaps (I do this regularly with soap/creme combo)...gives you best of two worlds. But, all my soaps give me a wonderful feel...I particularly like Tabac (it is really thick and moist)

I'm hooked on MWF, Tabac and AOS. The three are equally great IMO. I find it very hard to reach for any thing else and I have a half dozen others to choose from. Love the tallow.

Yes, Tabac is probably the other soap I own that performs as well as MWF for me. However, the scent seems to linger on my skin a bit strong and long for my liking. I don't mind the scent I just like MWF's mellow, fresh, clean scent a lot more, hence I reach for it more than any other.

It is also ironic that for a long time I just couldn't get MWF to work. Once I finally figured it out it has left the others in its dust. :001_cool:
