What's new

the best sooooothing sandalwood aftershave..

greets, long time 'lurker' but my first post! Have just begun experimenting with aftershaves, and am looking for the best sandalwood aftershave to combat razor burn / skin irritation... Any recommendations, and thanks!

Welcome to B+B--

I'm a big sandalwood fan. There are a lot of great sandalwood AS products, but many of them are alcohol based, and I don't know if that would work for you.

Art of Shaving Sandalwood gel and/or balm can be really soothing, but the essential oils bother some folks. Also, it has a prominent evergreen note with the sandalwood, so take that into consideration.

Probably my #1 pick for skin irritation and bumps would be Naked Bee Sandalwood lotion. It's technically a body lotion, but has witch hazel and a bunch of other good stuff in it. Plus I really like the scent. It's been good to my skin, especially when it's too tender for my usual arsenal of splashes.

Good luck,

+1 on Trumper's skin food. I'm waiting on a bottle of Taylor's Sandlewood AS lotion (splash), the other Taylor's lotions I have tried are excellent.

lemme know how you like the Taylor's lotion, I love their shaving cream... I ordered some of the Skin Food and the Naked Bee, will try using some of the skin food as a pre shave as well, to see if that helps at all! I have only been using a DE razor for a little over a month, so my technique is still 'raw' (no pun intended) but its getting better, trying out different razors, etc, to see what works best! Thanks to all for the replies as well!

AoS Sandalwood is very good to me when I make mistakes and get razor burn or windburn, etc. Plus, The LOTH loves the scent.

It's a trade-off.

Hydrolast as cream used with same tonic is one of the best in scent, moisturizing without stickiness, and zero stinging. It gives great burn relief. But, the scent is faint at best. Enough for you to enjoy or someone kissing you. In wintertime, I use it on my whole face.

AOS is a little oily on me, but I like the scent. It does not do a lot for "relief", but does moisturize. Great scent though.

SCS splash is a great splash. Burns of course, but some days I want that. She puts glycerin in it also. Great scent and super lady to deal with.

Floris is a milk, much like AOS and more synthetic smelling, but very good. My wife likes this one a lot. But, it's powerful stuff.

Soothing for me equals aloe based.

The answer to your query is this: Nature's Gift Sandalwood AS splash.

Altho I'm not nuts about its sandalwood aroma -- and it is real sandalwood, btw, not a synthetic -- fragrance aside, this is absolutely the most healing AS I own (splash or balm, doesn't matter.). Hands down. It's an all-EO concoction w/aloe vera & a bit of alcohol used as a preservative. You can check out my review here if you like.

As was previously mentioned, Hydrolast's Sandalwood balm is good stuff, too. However, scent-wise it's not only very lightly-scented but I've recently discovered that the scent doesn't last. I put it away in a cabinet last spring with the top screwed tightly on. When I opened it up again to use this past fall, I took a sniff. Nothing. Whatever trace of sandalwood that was originally there has vanished altogether.

Good luck w/your search!

EDIT: I've actually been talking w/Marge (the owner of Nature's Gift) about developing either an unscented or very lightly-scented version of this splash. If she was to do that, I honestly think it could replace virtually every single splash & balm I own. Not that I would want to do that but yeah, it's that good.

EDIT #2: Welcome to B&B!

I am def interested in trying some of these alcohol based splashes, but have always been hesitant because of the 'burn factor..' if they do sooth the skin, though, I will give it a shot! How do they compare to the balm / gel types, as far as the soothing / razor burn factor?

just bought some of the SCS sandalwood splash to try, is there a better technique for putting it on...? with splashes, I generally seem to spill more or make more o a mess than what seems 'efficient..' grin...

They appear to not be taking orders, or answering emails. Think this is temporary?

Sounds like you've got it. Pour some on hand, rub hands together, splash on face. You could put it in an spray bottle, but if we were destined to do that, they wouldn't have called it splash.

for your help.. I feel like I've turned the corner on my technique, and the SCS aftershave splash is surprisingly soothing... and smells great!!!

The TOBS Sandlewood lotion is great. Great sandlewood scent (IMHO) and very soothing. TOBS lotions are becoming my favorite AS.
